I would say - add more light instead of defoliate, but that has to happen at an earlier stage - so all those solar-panels get maximum light on them so they can help the plants to grow to their maximum capacity.
If it’s got a lot of leafs it should be run’ed in hydro so the plant can use all of them them, coco or similar would do it as well instead of the ultimate DWC.
It’s a lot of factors that plays a role but i recommend growing in coco,
if it’s environmental friendly produced.
