I'm growing a couple of sweet seeds skunk auto, two hawaiian hazr, and one strawberry blue in coco loco by fox farms. I called fox farms and they told me that its basically a hybrid media with coco and hummus and to make sure that my ph is between 6.2-6.5 and i should have success. I was at my local hydro store yesterday, where i bought the coco loco, to pick up some cal mag and mentioned to the guy that my ladies looked a little small for ten days old and he told me that the coco loco was inert and to introduce some 1/8 strength nutes. Does this sound correct? I have fox farms grow big and now some cal mag. What do you guys think?

Pics would help loads if possible.
I start mine on 1/4 nutes when I see first true leaves. He could be spot on.

Whats up jeb ive never grow in coco but im about to and from the research ive done I think you should water the pot thoroughly with water mixed with nutrient at a .8 ec or 600ppm. If u don't have a meter u might want to get one those they're are pretty cheap about 20 bucks. That initial watering should last you a couple of days but in the beginning its better to water less since you're trying to build up the roots.

hi jebkmoo :Sharing One:

Interesting stuff..coco loco..never heard of or seen it.

I`ve never used fox farm..or that kind of coco.. but here`s what i use to do (using canna coco pro)

i mix a solution to around 400 ppm with some Canna a+b... (cal/mag and rizotonic would be preferable)

water my coco troughly B4 i pot my sprouted seed..then after that..i use the same nute mix to keep the top moist..like Jayar said.. we want that drysycle for the roots to develope! :)

my first grows i watered with plain spring water in the beginning..i`ve later read that Canna says "NONONO!" to that and NEVER feed with plain ph`ed water because it will ruin the buffers in the coco coir..
but i didnt notice any trouble doing it..after all :dunno:

just my 2 cents brother :)

Everyone thank you for taking the time to respond to my noob post. I've had three successful soil grows but i wanted to branch out and try something new this time. According to fox farms it has been on the market for less than a year and the product can be found on their website. I called them and they said that its basically a coco and soil hybrid with it being a mix of coco coir, forrest ground hummus, and a healthy ratio of perlite. The mixture is incredibly airy and spongy. So far so good!

Well, back to my original issue, introducing nutes. He was 100% correct. I added 1/2 tsp per gallon of water and 1 tsp of cal mag less than 48 hours ago and the roots have exploded and they have all doubled in size.

Where do i get a ppm meter? Another noobie question is what is EC? I've searched everywhere and I can't get an answer. Is it electric current? If so, why is it relevant to coco or soil?

Since no one has grown with this media I'm going to start a grow journal here.

Edit to add to my above post... i added 1/2 tsp of fox farms grow big, 1 tsp of cal mag, and 2 drops of super thrive all to one gallon of distilled water at a ph of 6.2.

nice bro! Good to know everything worked out. An EC meter measures the electrical conductivity in water.. So pure water has an EC of 0 and water mixed with nutrients now has dissolved solids so now it can conduct electricity.. so it would read as .1 .2 etc. the more nutrient the higher the EC.. if that makes sense.

EC and PPM are bsically the same thing but in the USA they like to use PPM over EC. I recommend u stick with an EC meter because its more reliable than measuring PPMs. why? because EC is universal and PPMs are measured differently by different brands. So one PPM meter will read 500 and another brand meter can read 1000.

In coco its important cuz most coco has extra goodies that can be disturbed if u use straight water and so the manifacturers will tell you oh water with at least .8 ec or youll harm your plants. Plus you could see if youre over feeding or under feeding so thats good. Hope this helps bro. Peace

JAYAR... thanks for all of the information, that really clear things up! Where would I get a quality ec meter? Any reccomendations? My ladies are finally taking off!
