Cliff Notes for the lazy stoners

- 2 Tent Perpetual Grow (Total of 1800w HPS/MH, and 2 130w UFO LEDs)
- Deep Water Culture, 5 Gallon Buckets
- General Hydro 3 Part Series, Calmag, Silica Blast
- Strains: 3x Dinafem Critical Jack, 4x Dinafem White Widow (For now…)

Hello AFN! I have been planning my first grow for over 6 months, and the time has come for me to begin my journey into this wonderfully intoxicating hobby. I have been lurking on every cannabis forum like Ted Bundy on a Friday Night, and decided to settle in here. I love the vibes, and the general helpful attitudes of most of you guys. I have been meticulously planning, and my mind has been consumed entirely by this little project of mine, and my fascination with everything grow related has been nothing short of obsessive compulsive. I hadn’t planned on registering for any of these websites, but I grew increasingly bored with the prospect that I couldn’t share this experience with anybody… So here I am! I hope to enjoy some friendly conversation, exchange some humor, and learn a thing or two while I’m here. I’m rarely short for words, nor do I mind talking to myself, so hopefully someone out there will be as entertained as I am haha.

I’m the type of person who doesn’t do anything half-assed. If I decide to do something, I go all out. I can’t help myself. It’s a gift and a curse. I have never grown ANYTHING before. Fortunately for me, my mothers side of the family has a notorious green thumb, and my fathers side of the family is exceptionally good at consuming mind altering substances. Hopefully my genetic predisposition towards this craft suits me well. I figure why settle for popping my growing cherry, when I can annihilate it in a manner that would make gallagher proud. Anyway, that’s enough of the chit-chat. lets get down to brass tax, shall we?

I built two custom DIY grow tents out of PVC, due to the restrictive nature of the space I am currently using. The first tent is a smaller 3’x5’x’6’ tent with a 600w MH/HPS, which I will use as a vegging tent and eventually shag pad for the ladies. It would be nice to be able to produce an abundance of seeds, and I may just jump straight in on my first run.

The second tent is 4’x10’x7’. This is my main tent for when they start filling out. I have 2 600w HPS (With Cool Tubes), as well as two 130w UFO LED’s (330nm & 630 nm) for supplemental lighting. Each tent has a 6” Inline fan and Carbon Filter for odor control, and I also built a DIY ONA Generator to run when the tents are open, for safe measure. I used insulated ducting to muffle the fans, as well as a fan speed controller. I am very pleased with the degree of stealth I have been able to attain, although I may think differently once they go into flowering and it smells like the inside of a skunks asshole in there.

I am going with Hydroponics my first run, Deep Water Culture specifically. I made the DIY Buckets as per Rumpleforskins tutorial. I will be using General Hydroponics 3 part Micro-Grow-Bloom formula, in addition to Calmag, Silica Blast, Clearex, and obviously PH up & down.

Genetics, I decided to go with Dinafems White Widow, and Dinafem Critical Jack. I felt I had to honor the late great Jack Herrer, and the fact that I have heard nothing but rave reviews about the strain made it a safe bet. Cerebral, Psychoactive and creative Daytime Smoke? Hells to the yeah. And then the White Widow to compliment it with a nice relaxing mellow high. I have also seen nothing but great plants from the guys over at Dinafem. Hopefully I can do them justice.

I’m excited to get this ball rolling, and even more excited to be here. Thanks in advance for whoever decides to subscribe, chat, and provide assistance. I think its great work that you guys do, it’s a shame that it has to be kicked under the rug and goes unnoticed / unappreciated by most. Were going to win this war, so just keep fighting the good fight! I will be back in a couple of days with some pics and updates on the status of the grow.

Peace,
-SkatterBrayne

Thanks for the words of encouragement everyone!

I am still in the process of constructing my larger tent, just waiting for the post man to deliver my roll of Poly Film. Once everything is in place I will be sure to upload a barrage of pics of the whole setup.

I started two of my critical jacks 3 weeks ago, and one white widow 2 weeks ago. I wanted to have a few plants ahead of the rest for practice and potentially reverse them to pollinate the the younger plants.

Tap roots emerged this morning on the 1 Critical Jack, and 3 White Widows I have been germinating over the last two days.

I will be sure to get some pics of the ladies up today!

Edit: How do I go about quoting multiple posts within my same reply? I wanted to individually respond to each of you within a single post, but by default it only allows me to quote one person?

Update

Alright here are some preliminary pictures of the first 3 ladies I have going. The two larger ones are Critical Jack, which sprouted on 6/19. The smaller one is a White Widow, sprouted on 6/25.

I have had them under a 600w Metal Halide, and kept the bulb around 18" from the tops. It seems the intense amount of light wasn't toxic to them, but did result in extremely tight node spacing as you can see in some of the images. I have read from numerous sources that tight nodes are better. However, since I will have more vertical room in my second tent, I am considering raising the lights a little bit to allow for more vertical stretching. I have been using silica as well, and the stems look very good to my untrained eye.

You can see from one of the overhead images that one of the Critical Jacks experienced some pretty nasty Nute Burn and burn resulting from improper PH. I hadn't been bubbling my hard tap water prior to placing them in the buckets, which resulted in rapid and wild PH swings. I had left town for two days, and the results were horrific. Luckily for me she is forgiving, and didn't file a domestic abuse report Stones slap. Some of the lower leaves are burned, twisted, paper thin, and crisped. New Growth appears to be lush, however. Hopefully I didn't stunt her too badly.

Both of the Critical Jacks have displayed pre-flowers, so they should hopefully begin to put on some more size as the fan leaves continue to develop nicely.

Lessons

-Certainly need to be here to tend to these ladies, as I have already seen first hand impact that neglect can have on these delicate ladies.

-Intense Lighting at close proximity does, infact, result in short and tight node spacing.

- Next time when transplanting the Rockwool into the Bubble Buckets, I need to place them a little bit higher up. I feel like they are sitting too deep in the buckets, although it doesn't appear to be a huge problem.

Questions

-Would you reccomend raising the light to encourage some more vertical growth? Or would it be better to keep the lights close for maximum lumens, and short inter-node spacing.

-For those with breeding experience, about how long of a window do I have from when the pre-flowers first develop, to begin spraying Colloidal Silver? I am still waiting for 50ppm C.S to arrive from Amazon. I am considering using the abused lady to reverse, to pollinate some of my future seedlings which are currently germinating.
