Mephisto Genetics Skylar White & Creme de la Chem [1st Grow Ever]

Alright, I’m convinced this is a zinc deficiency from a too high pH.

I think the next step is a flush. I’ve been researching for hours and I can’t find solid answers on this:

1) how much pH’d water should I use to flush 3.5 gal? (I say 3.5 because the 5g pots aren’t filled all the way)

2) should I include Cal Mag in the flush?

3) should I go straight water the entire flush or add low strength Grow Big back into the last pour of the flush?

I have a cheap soil pH meter that I know now was stupid to even try. I need to get an Accurate pH8 meter at some point. Until then, based on the pictures and symptoms I’m going with zinc def which could only be due to the high pH water I’ve been giving it up until last Friday.

Thanks for any help!

Question 1- I think it’s double amount of water than the container. Example) 5 gal pot = 10 gal of water
Not a hundred percent sure, I’ll have to read some threads again. Pretty sure there are some tutorials out there and maybe AFN peeps could chime in on this.
Only used this on deficiency plants, not the final flush before harvest!

Question 2- straight ph’ed water or RO water.

Question 3-answered in question 2.

Hope this helps.

Day 39

So, here’s where I ended up after reading comments here and researching around. I raised the lights so they are 18” from the top of the highest part of the plant. Suspected potential light burn adding to the problem.

Then, I gave Skylar 3.5 gal of pH’d plain water before one last gallon with .25tsp Grow Big/.75tsp Tiger Bloom and 2.5ml CalMag to replace the nutrients. I didn’t do a real flush, mostly because I tested the soil’s pH using 4 tsp of soil from the pot, some distilled water and a half hour for the mixture to set. Came back with a 6.5 pH. After the first gal of fresh water, the runoff was 6.4. So, I can only imagine pH wasn’t the problem. OR - it was the problem but I had already started to correct that once I got a pH pen before I noticed there was a problem.

Skylar seems to have recovered. The bright green is not as bright as it was on the bud site leaves. I know it won’t return to normal and I have to look at new growth to see if the problem is resolved. I haven’t been able to tell yet. I did notice what looks like CalMag issues on lower leaves, but again I started adding CalMag a couple weeks ago and I recently found out LED setups tend to need more CalMag, so again wondering if this problem is showing itself after I had already started to correct it.

Similar problems were seen on CDLC, but not as bad. Ever since lifting the lights it seems like they’re both better.

Hey all! Sorry, it’s been a while. I quickly learned how much work this is once the plants get on different watering schedules. Plus, being my first time I have ran into a lot of little problems that have absorbed my time. I just had to replace my 6” cheap Vivosun fan with a Vortex S Line 600 and my carbon filter with a Phresh filter.

Day 54 Skylar White

Skylar looks good. I likely had a combination of wind burn, light burn, and low pH lockout at various times but I managed to prevent too much damage I think. Buds look good and this one only has a few weeks left. I ordered a microscopic lens to begin checking trichomes and get to harvest!

Day 54 CDLC

This one has been stunted from the beginning, and while I didn’t have any major nutrient problems this past week some leaves started showing bad signs of what looks like a CalMag problem, but I don’t know. I flushed it and tried to get it back on track but I stopped expecting too much out of this one a while ago, so any yield will be a pleasant surprise. I think it’s too late to really stop whatever is happening so I’m crossing my fingers.

Okay so I effed up in true n00b fashion and forgot to take pre harvest photos. I started getting drastic yellowing/browning/dying on Skylar White at Day 65-67 so I checked out trichomes and had a solid 20% Amber/80%ish cloudy - so I chopped! I wanted to get one more feeding of straight water but the dying looked too bad and I got inpatient.

I also forgot (stoned) to weigh the wet trimmed bud. I’ll let you know what I pulled dry in another day or so.

For drying I used a cardboard box ducted to my main tent with only a Passive intake on the box. 75F, 40-50% humidity

That "..drastic yellowing/browning/dying.." might have been the plant consuming herself and a signal she was done. According to Mephisto website Skylar White is a 70-80 day from sprout plant, so good job reading the plant and taking appropriate action.

Thanks everyone!

56.84 grams dry - 4 day hang dry, now into the jars to cure with Boveda 62 packs. Buds were dry and small stems snappable. The buds are pretty airy, which I kind of expected with these LEDs. I don’t really care though, it’s all personal to be used for bowls and J’s. I couldn’t barely get 1/2oz into a normally full ounce jar haha.

CDLC is yellowing steadily. I gave her one more plain water feed tonight and probably going to chop her later in the week. Skylar V2 is looking more healthy than the first go around so I’m already happy with her.
