Hi guys I was wondering something.
I got a soil pH indicator and I grow in pro mix bx .I need my ph to be at 5.8 to 6.2 for the best bites absorbsion.so I ph my water around 6 each time I give them something to drink.

Last night I got the idea to check the soil pH and it is at 6.5-6.8.Should I lower the ph of the water I'm feeding them like something closer to 5.5 so my soil get a ph around 6.0 !?

Ty for your time guys

You’ll never change the pH of Pro-Mix itself unless you wait long enough for the peat to start breaking down and becoming acidic, which happens over time. Pro-Mix is heavily buffered with dolomite lime to prevent this from happening and it keeps the pH relatively neutral

I tried as an experiment for shits and giggles by flushing crazy amounts of acidic water through it and the medium never dropped below 6.7-6.8.

The pH of ~6 you’re aiming for pertains to your actual nutrient solution, not the pH of the medium itself.

6.2-6.3 nutrient solutions seems to be the generally recommended consensus for peat mediums. I aim for this, but I won’t bother adjusting up if I land as low as 5.8. I’ve often wondered if a peat medium buffered to a neutral pH might do better with nutes a little more acidic than 6.2 or 6.3, but so far I have not observed this. 6.2-6.3 seems to be a bit of a sweet spot.

Exactly right. I've been using The HP for over 10 years with RO water and never check the pH unless I decide to use potassium silicate then I add that to my water first, pH down to around 7 then add my nutes and pour it without checking again. The plants are always happy so less messing around is fine by me. I mainly use AN 3-part pH Perfect nutes but also Remo and MegaCrop along with some organic inputs in my medium blends too.

BX has the same lime inputs but a lot less perlite than HP so doesn't need any perlite added to it.

:peace:
