Some random questions about growing autos outdoors

Dunno about the pollen issue, out of my area. But, yes, my girls were photo's. But, even the two Auto girls were fat lasses.
Good luck chum.

eP.

You know what Cream used to say "fat bottom girls make the rockin world go round"

Thanks again you two
Muddy, do you know if those disposable stripps are any good? after next year I'm going to get my soil tested at a lab so I know exactly what it needs I just don't think I will have the funds for that by next spring
the potting soil I will use to start them in is the same stuff they use in nurseries to start seedlings in it is basically 80%peat moss and 20% perlite I will add a little lime to that and probably mix some (half a cup or so) of composted cow manure to the bottom half of the container and feed them a little fish and seaweed if they need it I don't thing the composted cow manure I use will be too hot for them but I might be wrong, I have all kinds of 1/2 and 1 gallon planters but I grew some plants in smart pots this summer and the root structure was beautiful and strong so I thought burlap cut and made into a about a gallon size smart pot would be good to start them in with the added benefit of no transplant shock at all couple that with some seaweed fertilizer when I put them in the ground and they should go straight from growing to exploding (I hope)

Those test strips are not near as accurate as a good soil tester. They are good in a pinch or if it's all you can afford.

A mix of about 75 - 80% peat and 20 - 25% perlite with some added lime is fine. A small amount of manure would also be fine. Just know that autos have a long tap root and it will only take a few days to a week before they will reach the bottom of most pots. I've not tried your burlap idea and can't remember ever seeing that tried before. I would think it can work as long as the burlap is porous enough for the roots to get through. IMO people tend to make more out of transplanting than they need to. Using the juice containers and disturbing the roots as little as possible my plants are always back to normal growth within 24 - 36 hours of transplanting.

On the plant spacing, yes, for photos I would recommend at least 4'. I've not grown the SBR70 but all the Dragons I've grown have been of a size that wouldn't need more than 24 - 30" of space between plants.

I plan on planting all my male plants and collecting pollen to make some seeds should I collect pollen from all the males or Just the best looking one?

I wouldn't plant any of the males if I were you. You will have no way to control the pollination and all of your plants will end up being heavily seeded. The energy the plants put into making seeds will take away from their potency. One auto flowering plant fully pollinated can create 1,500 - 2,000 seeds, more than you would ever need. Keep several of the best males in their starter pots and put them in a different location or better yet, keep them indoors. They will produce more pollen than you will need. Use that to dust a lower branch on each of the females you want to produce seeds. Each branch is capable of producing 40 - 60 seeds.

Thanks muddy
I guess I'll get the good tester then ,and start some plants in some burlap pots and some in planters and some in juice containers if the burlap thing doesn't provide enough difference I won't bother with them again

On the spacing I'm not sure what I'm going to do but my patches are big enough to spread that plants out now if I decide to

On the males I plan to put out I didn't clarify that the spot that I will put them is miles away I won't bother to amend the soil there just put them in the ground and let them do there thing and collect pollen when in is time

Although I do beg to differ with you on the potency of seeded bud I have smoked plenty of seedy weed that put me on my a$$ but on the other hand I remember getting an ounce one time and weighed the seeds when I was done smoking and had almost ten grams of seed but hey what do you expect for a fifty dollar ounce on the street?
I haven't seen a seed in a few years now and I really do think it is a big lie about the weed today being soooo much stronger than it was 30 years ago I CALL BS
sorry I got off subject thank you again muddy

I too have smoked much pot with many seed that was exceptionally potent, but I'd say the pot grown these days is indeed stronger than pot 30 years ago thanks to superior genes, techniques and knowledge.
If you really want to seed some, i'd suggest starting a thread in the breeding section and for sure you will get some advice. I do have one question for you...why autos and not photos if you have space and don't worry about people?

I have agree on keeping the males TOTALLY separate. It not just that seeded bud is lower quality but the plant puts so much energy into seed instead of continuing to produce bud. By all means make crosses, evaluate your boys for desired traits, cull any duds, pollinate and tag just a few specific buds (I use cheap little art brushes for each cross then throw them out). I use coloured tye-wraps/zip tyes to keep track of which pollen so when harvest time comes around I know which daddy put it to which momma just in case something really stands out. I always runs some regulars with feminized seeds to mix genetics (there is a school of thought that disagrees with breeding fems). Good luck.
