Mephisto Genetics Sour Orange Livers nute line battle. MEGA CROP vs AN with Air injection

I started 2 Sour Orange Livers seeds the other day. Both germed fast and are up with first set of leaves. We shall call this day 1.

So I grabbed up some MEGA CROP POWDER, Calmag pro, and Sweet Candy and made up a Gal jug. I used the suggestion for seedling on the MEGA CROP and 1.75g of Calmag pro. I did this level to kind of precharge my Coco with extra Calmag. I will reduce to 1g per gal next jug. I use cobs and Coco, so I will add a little Calmag to be safe, since I use a ton with AN. This starter jug was just a tad low 5.8 on the pH, and it took VERY minimal up to get it to go to 6.2. it seems to hold the pH well in the jug once made.

I presoaked my 3quart pots 1 with the Mega Crop and 1 with AN. A little Mycos for the seedling in the hole. And planted directly into the 3 quart pots. The Mega Crop seedling came up first and is slightly ahead. I plan on making the Mega Crop jug the veg strength next time to see the strength and pH it comes to. I will just use it at half strength for a few days and see how things go, it is exactly 2x the amount of powder. FWIW, the amount of powder you use is very minimal. If this stuff works well, the cost is crazy low for nutes. It dissolves really well, but the Calmag pro took a tad more effort. Mag chunks take longer to dissolve.

The AN Coco nutes were mixed and fed half strength for Coco precharge. I will try to share EC levels of each. The AN base nutes and Calmag come to about 1.0 EC for full strength so we can compare the Mega Crop products strength. The seedling strength was about .5EC. It is a 1 part powder, and the directions call for upping the grams per gal at different weeks. However, I will not be pushing the limits and will read my plants. I think their directions may be too strong later on in life by looking at the charts. I will use the Sweet Candy similar to how I used to use Bud Candy and will wait to add that for a few weeks. I will be turning on the Airdomes in 10-14 days. I look forward to seeing how this plays out. We all know I could have different phenos, but I am sure we will get a glimpse of how the 2 nute lines compare. Since I am taking down some plants, I will start 2 more seeds of something to do another side by side with same nute companies. Will start germination process tomorrow and make another thread. Decided to pop a Couple Creme Bubbly seeds for next side by side nute experiment. Since I have not done them it will be another blind experiment in a way...but that's ok. I will also start 2 Sour Crack seeds and just run Mega Crop on them. I have done more Sour Cracks than any other Mephisto strain, so that will be a more definitive test. I will be running a cocurrent experiment with the Sour Cracks, involving Airdome start time. I will just create a combined thread for them once they are going. Will go soak some Toilet paper and ziplock the paper up overnight. I like to preheat my paper before germination to speed things up. Peace, slow.

I think both will be great. They're both great nutes. MC is just a cheaper option in a dry form.
Interesting to see EC values. Right now I am also writing down my EC values from the start with using AN nutes, because I never followed EC. I will use them with MC then on next grow.

I made up new water and decided to try 3g per gal of MC and 1g per gal of Calmag pro. EC .7 and the pH was 6.2. I think that will be a good early veg strength, can always up it to 4g per gal if/when needed. The directions go from 2g seedling to 4g per gal for veg. So I split the difference and went with 3g per gal And added the 1g per gal of Calmag pro. I like the pH and EC at that strength for early veg, but precharged and fed with 2g per gal for starting seedlings. Btw, I changed my plans and started 3 Sour Crack seedlings, as my next Testers with MC. They are in Toilet paper now, will plant them tomorrow. Update with a couple pics in a min, day 3 from seed.

Day 3 from seed...I will turn on domes in a week. Slight stretch due to light distance, it has been lowered.

What is your water source? EC?
I think you don't need to add Ca/Mg till flowering... MC has 6% I think. That was my dose at post-stretch time. Also using coco and COBs.

I use RO water, and I always use Cal-Mag from day 1 with Coco and cobs. If not, you will see a Mag def quickly in my experience. Coco eats up Cal-Mag quicker and I use small pots. 1g per gallon is not much, I would rather play it safe the first round. Greenleaf say some strains NEED it in Coco. Most of the time nute companies are basing results on HPS. I have to add much more Cal-Mag to cob plants vs hps. Thanks for the heads up, and I will certainly be keeping a close eye on things. I feed multiple times per day, and the AN nute mix is stronger than the MC and uses more calmag. Peace slow

Day 6 from seed. Everything seems fine with both so far. MC still staying slightly ahead. They have picked up the pace over the past few days. I will definitely be turning the domes on at day 10. I will make another jug of MC at the current strength and will increase to 4g per gal next time I make water. Will take pics then so we can see the when the Airdomes how fast they explode. Peace, slow
