Live Stoner Chat Stealth and social engineering. For the veteran's here who have been growing more than 5 years....

All posted is great sound advise...I do have a question about VPNs...if you get a VPN now...hiding you ISP locating from now on...what about all the other times BEFORE the VPN..I guess it would depend on server if it dumps ISPs once user is logged off. Not sure how that works..IF any law enforcement did hang out ...can they see older post with ISP? or can they only see it when active on site? make sense?..If they can see older ISP...should one get a new Nickname when they get a VPN?.

Gulp, yeah, me too. Can't keep up with all this goddamn "technology"

depends a lot on what neck of the woods you in.(uk)
if the cops knock on your door, they most likely have paperwork and a dog so stealth dont matter to a dog, your caught and thats it bye bye.
can buy any growing related item including seeds without issue.but never a private listing on ebay or the likes.
if cops come to your door its because you told someone.and they probably told someone who may told someone else.
that may mean you are the only person to know a grow op is happening under your roof, regardless if there are any others in the house or not.
rule 1 no tell means no tell.you cannot have any exceptions.

Valid question, @Padawan1972

Maybe there is an ISP Tech here that can help? :chef:

your IP address is not too different from your home address in that it's a way to find you. your ISP provides either a dynamic or static IP address. a dynamic address changes over time. a static address stays the same over time. most residential accounts will be dynamic. (business accounts want static for a number of reasons.) you'd think this is good in that your IP address will change but it actually doesn't change too often. with some ISPs you can leave your modem completely unplugged for anywhere from minutes to hours to days which will trigger you to receive a new IP address.

How long do ISPs keep track of your dynamic IPs? Not sure, to be honest.

Do this. Go to google and search for 'what is my ip'. You'll get an IP address in your result.

If you have an iphone you can download 'betternet vpn' which is free to use. MOST VPNs for your phone cost money. This app is free so don't be fooled when you first launch it and it attempts to get you to sign up for the paid version. Once installed, open it and click on the buttons to get connected.

Then go back to google and search for 'what is my ip'. If it worked, you'll get a different IP address.

If you have a PC download & install "open vpn." it's free. then go to vpnbook.com where there will be an area for 'openVPN' accounts. download a 'certificate bundle'. make note of the username and password at the bottom of the choices for you to download. make sure open vpn is running on your computer - it looks like a small monitor icon in the bottom right corner of a windows based machine. right click on the open vpn program and choose 'import file.' browse to your download area and double click the file you just downloaded from vpnbook. Once imported you can right click on 'openVPN', highlight one of the connections, and then click connect. (This all seems like a lot but trust me, it's not too bad.)

Now that the heavy lifting is complete - go back to google and search for 'what is my ip.' You'll get yet another IP address in your result.

Turn off the VPN from your computer or phone and google 'what is my IP' and you'll see the first IP you started with.

Lastly, you can download the "Tor" browser. It's free. (see a theme with my suggestions? ;) Tor is an 'internet browser' just like mozilla firefox, google chrome, and internet explorer. except it's designed to be very secure. once you download and install Tor that browser acts similar as a VPN. open Tor and search 'what is my ip'. You'll notice it uses duckduckgo.com instead of google. because unlike google, it doesn't track your searches. and yet again, you'll get a different IP address.

Lastly, you should change your IP address when making bitcoin transactions so that it's more difficult to trace. because bitcoin is NOT entirely anonymous.

Can't edit for some reason - but to answer EG and Padawan....

many websites and forums (if not ALL) will track all of our IP addresses. law enforcement would need to subpoena these forums and websites to get that information (at least legally). most websites like these forums are likely not a target since, technically, they aren't doing anything illegal. now, people selling stuff through their website could be targeted and law enforcement could 'bust' the entire operation at which point they'd get access to the data.

depending on how old your activity is on websites you've likely already received new IP addresses. it boils down to how long the ISPs keep track that YOU had IP address x.x.x.x. But even then, law enforcement need to go through a lot to piece it all together.

are they going to go through all of that for mr. home grow? in my unprofessional opinion - no. will they go through all of that to track down who runs Silk Road? yup.

to be honest, i'm more concerned about what will eventually happen with bitcoin. each transaction is stored publicly. once people determine how to decipher it (and it's possible) they can crawl through each and every transaction to gather IP info. because once they know that bitcoin-address-XXXX is "seedsman" or "sensible seeds" then they can backtrack all activity being sent their way. so again, change your IP by using a VPN when moving bitcoin around. because while it's decent right now - i'm wondering how long before anonymous decides to decipher it and leak anything they can.

I think some of you are overcomplicated.
No one will be looking/searching you through IP and that tech. It's not worth it, there are bunch of heavy criminals to catch before you.
And no one will be looking what have you buy at growshop. Shop is legal and you can buy everything you want. This is not a crime or a thing for investigation. You maybe bought soil/nutes for corn field.

Just keep your mouth together, get carbon filter and watch at the street if you have weed in the pocket.

Thank you this is what I was looking for cloose calls and how to avoidd those mistakes when you ordered seeds did you use your real name for the package?

From my experience of almost going to federal prison because of a crazy girlfriend that I got away from...

-Don't tell anyone that isn't your best friend, and even then be careful. MAKE SURE YOUR GF OR BF ISNT A SOCIOPATH!!!!

-Use a VPN for all browsing on your phone that has to do with cannabis. VPN's aren't that expensive, I recommend nordvpn.

-Go to a local hydro store to buy supplies and use cash(I have bought off of Amazon before and luckily for me it didn't matter for my case at the time because they either didn't find it out or didn't look)

-make sure you have a carbon filter or else the smell will be VERY noticeable and you will start to get used to it and not notice it as much even though it is clearly very strong. If you don't use a carbon filter the smell can seep into your clothes(if the grow is in your house/room)

-DONT BE LAZY!!!!!!! -i can't stress this enough. As in, if something is off make sure youre paying attention. Make sure everything is all together such as carbon filter and fan aren't leaking air through the tubing, no light leaks, etc

-try not to keep any records of anything. Now I do keep a notebook which I really shouldnt. If you can I recommend getting an app that had a password protecting the information you have within it.

--make sure location is off while taking photos or going into your grow area(if it isn't at your house)--im not sure if iPhones are the same or not but with iPhones you used to have to screenshot the photos you took because it always had a location tag

- dont tell people you have home grown nug. Even if you tell them it isn't yours they might believe otherwise

-send seeds to somewhere else besides to where you are growing. Ask a friend that already knows and you can trust if you can send them there. ALWAYS GET DISCRETE SHIPPING
- my last seed pack that I received a month ago was opened by customs. Of ciurse I used discrete shipping and taken out of breeeder packs. Customs opened it and it was a G-13 labs gray beanie. The seeds were tucked underneath the flap of the beanie and they never even saw them. Now that's what I'm talking about tight there!(order from attitude)

-use Bitcoin on your seed orders. Once I realized how to use Bitcoin I won't turn back to use anything else. The ultimate discreteness.

-after you are done tending to your garden...SHOWER. now this isn't the case all of the time but when I'm in my flower room at mid flower and messing with the plants my fingers, hands, sometimes clothes start to smell like the plants especially if I'm touching them. Showering can help displace the smell that is on you.

Every scenario is different but I definitely recommend these tips and a lot of others that have been said as well. You always have to be worried about what people know with what you do. Once you get comfortable is when something really bad can happen.

I use express vpn great for netfliix too to look for shows in different region locks lol

Thank you, @CR00 !

It answers a lot of questions.

@KonopCh ,

I wish I could agree with you, but not totally. My town is small, but I live close to large cities. My town and Mayor are out to get everyone here! They have some rich business owners that are investing in improvements that won't help anyone. They want to attract rich ppl to live here as a bedroom community to the big cities. So, out with the low life poor ppl that have lived here for generations that still work hard to make a better life. They just want us to go away, one way or another. We had a city vote to legalize, it passed and they will not enforce it. Law Director says they will follow State Law not City Law. Bunch of BS!

Thank you this is what I was looking for cloose calls and how to avoidd those mistakes when you ordered seeds did you use your real name for the package?

I did not use mynname. I used my buddies name that I sent the package to just so the mail wouldn't screw it up and send it somewhere else. If you don't normally get packages im sure it can work sending it with a fake name but if you consistently get packages from the same mail person then they may find it weird some fake name was sent to your address. I mean all in all I feel as though that's just me being paranoid but I hear a lot of stories of people getting their seeds confiscated and just getting a notice of what happened and that it is illegal to do so blah blah(from customs)...then nothing happening. Especially if the grow isn't even at the location that the seeds were sent they basically have nothing. Also, if you chose discrete shipping and the package gets confiscated the seedbank(attitude and I'm sure others as well) will reimburse you with new seeds again. The mail man delivering I guess isn't a huge deal compared to customs but you just never know. My overall recommendation is just don't send them to your grow address and just be overly cautious.
