This may be a really stupid question, but I did not know how to word it well enough to draw google results.

I finally got some dolomitic lime to adjust the ph of my soil. I got my soil ready, but after a few days found that the seed I was germing failed to germ.

Now I am trying to germ another seed....should I dump the soil and mix it around a bit, then put it back in the pot before I put a new seed in, just to make it a little more "fluffy" or is this not necessary?

any thoughts are welcome, thank you!

Not a dumb question at all, Dante!:tiphat:
If you have a good soil mix with 20 or 30% perlite, you shouldn't need to fluff it up any.
Now, if you ever lose an older plant that has established roots, I'd dump the mix and start over. Old, rotting roots can be bad JuJu for your next gal. Some re-use, but I won't take the chance.

Thank you for the fast reply Redneck!...yes I have 30% perlite..so I should be good...now if I can figure out why my seeds aren't germing anymore my world will be perfect :)

What method are you using, and what strain?

Candy Kush....I am using the cup of water method....I have never had luck with the towel method...they just sat in the bag and got smelly lol...its frustrating because on my last order of seeds I had 7 out of 10 germ without issue using the same method...it was the first time I had ever tried growing...so the 3 that didn't germ I chalked up to being a neophyte...so far I've lost 4 out of 6 on the candy kush...i'm getting frustrated to the point of just saying to hell with it and going back to a dealer...haven't toked in almost 2 months now

"My 2 cents"Water - Seed sinks - Paper towel - tap root shows - plant. Keep seed warm during germ. and make sure its in the dark.

You can re-mix if you want to man. I actually pre-water my soil when its in the pot then i pour it into a container and mix it up more then pour it back into the pot, then drop the seed.

i do this because when i pre-water, the soil on top turns kind of into a thick layer so i like to mix it again so its moist but yet still airy/fluffy on top :Sharing One:

I soak mine, too. 18 to 24 hours, planted 1/4 inch deep after the soak.
Some seeds are a bit tougher, and folks will put them in a matchbox with a bit of emery board and give it a 30 second shake (a rolled up sheet of fine sandpaper would also do the trick).
I keep my "bobbing beans" in a dark cabinet at room temp, and wash the heck out of my hands before I plant 'em, to avoid getting oils on the seed.
Now the world knows... sigh... I keep my bobbing beans in a dark cabinet.:roflcry:
Best of luck, Dante, and Don't Give Up!!!
