So I have not had the opportunity to experiment with any of the amazing LED lights out there like Grow Northern LED. I would LOVE ONE!
I am currently using a UNSPECIFIED T5 HO for veg. 4 x 4' 6500k 54w HO tubes, specified at 20,000 lumens. 150$
I am also using a UNSPECIFIED 125w CFL for veg 6500K , specified at 5,000 lumens 60$ w/bat wing.
The T5 HO is great for covering distance. Can veg quite a few under a 4' x 2' radius. The bulbs don't get too hot 95-103F
The CFL puts out some freaking power! Not so good at covering distance. They are usually 6"~ bulbs. So they are not too good for multiple plants. The bulb's can get hot, mine measured at 167-173F
To understand the pictures I will explain lux a little bit. Lux -The SI unit of illuminance, equal to one lumen per square meter. I am taking readings on x100. Therefore if the meter reads 300 you are getting 30000 Lux which is the equivelant to 2787.09 lumens per Sq Ft.

In Conlusion, CFL's can definitely pack a punch! You do lose lumens per watt the higher cfl you purchase from what I've read. I think the 42 Watter's are the sweet spot. I think a lot of cfl's would work great - would be a lot of work and a lot of adjusting numerous bulbs.
T5 HO can cover a great a amount of distance but can be somewhat pricey. With 150$ you can a HID setup but I have had better results with vegging under Flouro's. Well for the first two weeks of growth, seedling stage if you will.
What are everyone's thoughts? feel free to correct me, this is all off of research, etc. I could be wrong in certain statements.
