Lighting TOPled The Manual.

It is a misconception that plants don't use green light. It has actually been shown that within a certain spectrum, green works better than red!
plants use the entire spectrum to some degree including uvb which protects plant from insects.mold and fungas and stimulates production of resin and CBDs. much of the misunderstanding about plant needs is due to limitations of early led grow lights and companies putting out false information to mask these limitations. people are still looking for the best mix with led grow lights. action curves only measure chlorophyll response to monochromatic light but plants are very complex biological machines that use light for many other things as well.this does not show up in these action curves.

Thanks pop, Gurtrude2 I have a Mars II 700W and I start my light at 26"/66cm from my seedlings. That is all the height I have. After a four weeks or so I lower the light to around 12"-14" and keep moving it up until I run out of height. Although the intensity of the light doesn't cause problems I worry that the light's beam will not fan out far enough. So far so good but I have ordered a Mars I with 3W LEDs to start my seeds. :goodluck:

Thanks for that jackmc maybe my ph was off! Would that cause leaves burning?

Which Mars light do you have and do you have a pic of the damage? Off the cuff I would doubt it unless you put your light really close. As I said even with the 5W LEDs in my Mars II I don't have a problem. I'd guess it's pH or nutes. Post a pic and I am sure one of the gurus will sort you. Peace

The one your getting 300w. 3w diodes no pic its recovered only nutes was root stim

Maurice, I have read the same thing. Not so much about pests but adding some UV helps in bud and resin production. I have 8 cfls hung as side lighting to help. I have also read that some will add a reptile light and run it a few hours a day as well to add the UV. Good to know about pest control as well.

well i'm not a purist.I try to find what works best in my situation. I have 660nm leds added to my fluorescent fixture and plan on adding 1 or 2 2 ft 6500k T5HOs to my led cabinet.for me I think a hybrid combination would work best.I am in the process of modifying my mars hydro. replacing some of the red leds with these http://www.aliexpress.com/item/10pc...400nm-840nm-led-diode-for-MJ/32213725776.html and a few 430 and 470nm leds to balnce thing out.I like the broader spectrum they provide and they are much higher quality diodes then the original light used but then you can't expect too much from a $90 300watt grow light.and I love tinkering, trying to make things better

Yes I am getting one of the 3 Watt x100 LED. They call it a 300W but it draws 150-175ish watts. They drive the LEDs at around 50% so they last a long time. So you only truly draw about half of the listed wattage. The price of the light just dropped to $100. And according to pop22 you can get them for that price on ebay as well.

Mauricem00 How easy would it be to replace the fans in the Mars light? I have one that I'd love to pop a couple of quiet new fans into. Is it just a two pin plug into a circuit board? Thanks!
