Lighting TOPled The Manual.

FYI, I emailed Mar-hydro about whether it is necessary to add a UVB light to my grow room. First, as usual they have been very prompt in responding. Their answer was yes some UVB should be added. I already run some cfl's about 6-8 hours a day with my LEDs. Is this sufficient or do I need to purchase a reptile light?
cool white CFLs will provide enough UVB for most of the grow but adding a reptile light during the last to weeks of flowering may improve resin production

I was thinking about coppin' a reptile light, myself.

I think adding UVB light is a no brainer, I could almost guarantee increases in resin, overall Canabinoids, and even THC ;) I haven't done a scientific test (many others have) but my meds are noticeably stronger with em :) The goal would be to get close to the UVB output strength of the Sun, near the equator, and at the altitude of 4500 meters like at the Hindu Kush region. The 13w 10.0 will be a nice addition but the 26w will really help :) in my 4ft x 2ft tent I've got a 26w and a 13w, but actually the 13w was an amazon accident haha I thought I was getting another 26w lol oops. Just for the sake of math, some estimates say the strength of the Sun is 100w per square foot at sea level, and 3% is UV (not just UVB though). So 3w per sq ft of UV, in theory lol. So an 8sqft tent should have 24w of UV to get close to the theoretical sun. The bulbs are 10% UVB, so the 26w is making 2.6w of UVB. I'm not saying I should have 8 of em in there lol, but to get close to the sun will need much more than a single 13 watt UVB :)

Just pulled the trigger on 2 of those 26w bulbs you mentioned, Maurice. I figured, I'll be starting her 2 week flush at the end of next week, so I might as well see if I can get any increase in resin by giving her a couple hours of UV light up until chop. Besides, it might help me out in the BAM SLAM!

Hi guys

I am looking at getting the 900w mars led light , is it worth paying the extra 90$ for the flower spectrum ? On a different note does anyone know what brand led's KINDLED grow lights use in their lights , CREE , Bridgelux or epistar ?

Roodels, I believe that the the flower spectrum is used exclusively for flowering. You'd use a Veg Spectrum light during the growth period and switch lights when it's time to flower the plants. I've never used anything except the full spectrum Mars II light which is working well for me. I don't see the sense in changing lights out during a grow. You'd get a longer life out of two LEDs, running them half time, but your replacement cycle would be longer and you'd miss out technology improvements for longer a period. It seems to be a throwback to HID lamps. But I really like the Mars II it's not sexy but it throws more light per dollar than anything else out there. :tiphat:

mauricem00, Anthropolis & Bandit which UV bulb are you using? Is it a Black Light? I am looking on Ebay but I must be searching with the wrong description. Ty
