New Grower transplanting tips?

not if its a purple female. im kicking my self for not planting my red poison in a bigger pot such beauitful buds wish i would have thought to put her in a 2-3gallon. and if i got a purple kush female i want to make sure i get the most out of her becasue it could be possible the rest of my regular seeds are males. i dont know the sex yet so only time will tell what happens. if its male then yes your right smokey 1 gallon is plenty enought but if its female a one gallon wont cut it.lol:Sharing One:

I have a regular purple kushmatic in a one gal pot. I wanted a male so I wasn't worried about it getting real big, but its staying real low and have a feeling its going to be a girl, if so I want to get the most I can out of her and I'm going to need to put here in a bigger pot but never gone about transplanting since autos can be planted in their final pot. I was wondering if any of you guys transplanted a auto sucessfully and do you have any tips for me? I'm on day 12 so I have about a week or two before I see signs of sex so I have time to prep. I started all my auto's in solo cups one time, was going to cut the bottoms out and set them in 3 gal. containers ( a common method) . I ended up transplanting a bunch at 10-14 days from sprout. They all were spindling on the bottom and held the soil. None of them showed signs of stress or being stunted.

Assuming that tap root shot straight down in a 1 gal, 12 days in, it's going to be pretty difficult to transplant IMO. I would think a bunch of root hairs would get ripped/destroyed which would stress the plant and even cause more of a probability to get a male.

I have done a lot of transplanting test, AF's definitely don't like being transplanted. Like other's have stated, 1 gal is ok. Technically you COULD cut the bottom off (if plastic container) and set it on a 3 gal. That would be your best bet. I always transplant with a drop of superthrive (a b-1 formula) and 1 drop of gh rapid start (rooting additive). Good luck IDS

I Tier Transplanted for 2 years before I changed to what I do now. Mostly because now I grow 99% feminized and there's no need to transplant. As Autos don't have that recovery time (veg like a Photoperiod) so any stunting you do is permanent. Me personally I always transplanted when they were wet because I didn't want to tear roots. However, with tiering you already have your starter cup pre cut and place in final pot. Now this ties into STB's last comment...

I also disagree. When I tiered autos I stareted in 32 oz cups or 44oz cups and then transplanted into 1 gallon grow bags. I don't know if you've ever seen any of my grows but I've had monsters in 1 gallons. Granted now that I grow in 2 gallons straight away I get bigger yields.... But unless you absolutely HAVE to have a big huge ass yield, or you have a personal thing against 1 gallons, you will be just fine leaving a potential female in a 1 gallon pot.

I've pulled 2.5-4.5 ounces off a 1 gallon auto and nearly 5 ounces off a photo once in a 1 gallon. You also have to consider genetics... Especially in autos... If you get a small pheno she's gonna be small and you can't do anything about that. As opposed to photos where you can veg her to the size of your liking and make her big. Just keep that in mind.

If it was me personally I'd leave her in the 1 gallon. But again if you have to transplant... do your best to not rip and tear the roots. You may want to water a bit along the sides and let it seep down to the bottom just to help that process and it's not so dry... IME most Autos don't skip a beat when transplanted. You may have a few day or even up to a week of "down time" but I've only experienced that a few times. And I've tiered 100's of plants. So I do have tons of experience doing it. If you get her too late where she's root bound and the roots are swirling around the botton of the pot she may not grow much more at all... So consider that as well...

I let it dry out and everthing was going right until Iwent to put it in another pot and everything crumbled. I think I lost to some roots also. I finished the process but I don't know if she will survive it. What u guys think?

thats precisely why I don't like transplantin dried out plants/soil. Freshwater after helps the soil si root fibers in it all bunch up.

I'm sure she'll survive but may need some time to recover. I like to water and then transplant around 24 hours later so the soil is damp but not sopping wet. The only times I've had problems with breaking roots are when the soil was very wet or very dry. Also, if you have a second set of hands to hold the rootball it can be a big help.

if it crumbled it wasnt ready or needing transplant

hell i could toss my plant over to my buddy sitting a few feet away without it being in the pot anymore and it wouldnt crumble , and i do it dry

wet is heavy and the ONLY time ive ever had issues with breaking roots etc

p.s. the important thing is , we do what works for us , if that is wet or dry then so be it , but the general rule is dry , dont forget , we want the roots growing/searching for water , thats especially true when transplanting , if you transplant wet the roots are gunna sit there for days before they get goin in the new home
