Only a couple of grows under my belt and I continue to have trouble determining correct time to harvest. This is a Mephisto sour alien livers. She's 67 days from germination. My photo skills are poor but I can make out clear, cloudy and amber trichomes. Ready to chop, or wait a little longer?

Those trichs look pretty much done, but best checking a sample of bud not a sugar leaf as they can finish up a fair bit quicker or amber from physical contact also.

Thanks, Spanglish. Good suggestion. I'll quick-dry a bud to sample.

Nothing wrong with a quick sampler nug ;) But what i meant was get some trich pics of a nug rather than the leaf, can clip a sampler and grab some closeups before you dry it to check the trich colour on her nuggets.

Ah, my misunderstanding. I just took this close-up of a bud and I see that there is almost no amber. I would have cut her down today if you hadn't suggested that I look at the buds. Greatly appreciated!

No worries pal we all here to help each other ;) I agree that she looks a bit early yet with still a few visible clear trichs in the mix, just keep on checking her and whens she good to go she will tell ya, at a guess i would say a week to 10 days or so but the trichs will say for sure.

I mistakenly thought that amber was an indication that the trichomes were degrading. Guess I have a few weeks left before I have 50% amber. Thanks for saving me from harvesting too early.

Not so much degrading but as THC oxidizes it changes to CBN, as this change happens is when you see the trichomes turn colour from cloudy to amber. CBN is a pretty strong sedative which i have read in some studies that 5mg of CBN is as effective as a 10mg pill of Diazepam, so in theory the more amber trichomes the more THC has converted to CBN which in turn will deliver a more sleepy stone than mind racing creative high. The amount of amber you want to harvest at is completely down to the buzz you are looking and personal preference, the start of the harvest window can be when just about all the clear immature trichomes have gone and the rest are cloudy for a real heady and depending on the strain possibly a racy uncomfortable high, 10%-20% amber to cloudy will give a pretty good balance of both body and head high, 20%+ is gonna start giving a real powerful knockout sleepy time stone and as i use most of my buds in the day is a bit too much for me to function on but make for some great nighttime meds. I just wait till there are very few clear trichomes left and once that has happened just monitor daily till i see the right mix of amber coming on in.
