Grow Mediums Trying some Hempy's ...bottles

Here my first try of Hempy style..8 bottles 2.25 liters, 2 inches hydroton at bottom, perlite and 1 inch soil on top.
Nutes, Vitalink A+B, Grow and Bloom...

Here and after 5 days...looks ok to me, crossed fingers...

How weird! I'm getting ready to do the same thing! I've got 6 2l bottle cut in half with perlite and vermiculite! Haven't germed yet, my 1st grow's wrapping up and this going to be a side project to my next dwc grow.
I'm concerned about algae, are you? I guess I can rinse them every other day or so. I'm hoping the roots will grow down into the bottom reservoir kinda like from a net pot to the res in dwc. I'm excited! I'll follow your grow if you don't mind!?

Hey Bud-

Just wanted to weigh in on an issue i've been having that i'm fairly certain related to the Vermiculite in my buckets. It is skyrocketing my pH. After doing a ton of research, it seems that Vermiculite, even from the same mine, can have pH ranging from 6.0-9.0!!! Mine is obviously on the higher end of this. if you have not yet, I would rinse it daily for a week, multiple times and check the runoff to make sure you can get to the 5.5-6.1 range. i didn't rinse mine nearly enough and am now suffering from it. Next grow i'm going straight perlite.

I am not using vermiculite, it is 1 inch top soil, then straight perlite then the bottom 2 inches filled with clay hydroton,

Here an update at 7 days, got first leaves

Cannot see yet any roots.... it is said to be between 10-14 days...

I am feeding at 600 ppm (x5 fact, my water is at 300ppm),

I think they look ok,

HEre an update at 26 days,

Few notes, I should I fed 1 week earlier a bit stronger and should have placed them under stronger lights at week 2.
Next time round
Felt they are a bit slow and was worrying but now they are speeding up so hopefully good,

But ok, here pictures:

They are in the filling station, next round from week 2, will put in there:

Am feeding 1,75 ml A+B each grow and will move at 2 ml in few days....

Little update, here we are at about 44 days... they are growing much faster now, roots are more visible at bottom:


I am feeding them at 3ml / l grow (Vitalink) and pH 6.0

About 50 days now, they are flowering and are catching up very quickly...

Looks awesome. I use 20 oz Starbucks cups for my hempy SOGs. If I had more space I'd go with 2liters they work great.

I love reusing materials for growing. Saves money and works like anything else would for a container. Will keep my eye on this one!

your plants look great tok. I am trying hempy for the first time as well. I have 3 in 3 gallon plastic office trash cans and 3 in solo cups. How often are you watering? What Ph are you shooting for? how do you get rid of the run off? what are you mixing, if anything, with perlite?

I am 1/4 vermiculite and 3/4 perlite. I try for 5.8 ph and use a wet/dry vac to suck up water. I water once every 3 days.

I give twice a day, 2 x 300 ml. and pH of 6.2..the run off is sucked out by a manual kitchen pump ( I think you use that stuff for roast turkey for the sauce).
I am straight with perlite and the top is 1 inch of soil.
