None of the China sellers I know have jacked up prices. Mars Hydro is a China company but there are not in the same market as other Chinese sellers. Their target customers are very different. Hence, I don't consider them a Chinese seller sometimes.
Mars have been around for a long time. They paid their dues and built their brand. Many have tried to compete with them by doing the same strategy but they have proven to stand the test of time.
They are actually competing with name brands in the market. They have designated warehouses in major areas. They prepare ready to use, out of the box models for growers who don't wanna learn about lights at all. They have a very good online/social media presence. All of these costs money and are factored into the price. Warranties are easier with them too if that matters to you?
It will be a mistake thinking that a Mars light is the best value you can get, apple to apple, just because they're from China. The value of their lights is in the brand, service and convenience that the buyer gets. Its up to each individual to decide if these are traits they're looking for in a light?
The TS1000 for instance is about USD160? It has 300++ diodes running at 150W max. Uses cheaper but still solid Epistar diodes. Its also plug and play with beautiful housing.
If you go on Alibaba, you can get 2×288 Samsung boards with a Meanwell 240W Driver for USD100. You get way more quantity of diodes and wattage, more efficient light at 60% cheaper! But you'd need 10 minutes to set it up once you receive it. No plug and play here. Warranty is also difficult to get honored. But replacement boards are cheap enough though.
So there are pros and cons to both options. Just depends on which company has what you're looking for imo.
Just my thoughts.
