Hello all. So I am going to purchase an air-cooled hood but was unsure about what kind to buy. The cool tube is attractive to me because they are a slim design and cheaper compared to other air-cooled reflectors, but I read that they have poor light distribution and can create hot-spots. Or I can go with a more traditional style hood. Here are two links to show you the two I can't decide between:

Cool tube: http://www.hpsgrowlightstore.com/hp...00w-hps-dimmable-cool-tube-reflector-set.html

Traditional style: http://www.hpsgrowlightstore.com/hp...ight-400w-hps-dimmable-air-cool-hood-set.html

My second question... I've decided on DWC. When it's time for lights-out do I turn the air pump off too? Or does that have to be going 24/7? I heard that water holds oxygen for up to 24 hours.

Thanks in advance.

I would go with the traditional unit ,It will reflect more light. I 'm not sure about the air pump but I would leave it on 24/7.

Cool. That's pretty much what I figured. Thanks namvet!

pump 24/7
2nd light option only go air cooled if you have to as for me the glass seems to cut efficiency and maybe some spectrum in some cases but that better than poor temp ranges

Yes, that makes sense that is may cut some effciency, although this will be my first grow so I don't know if heat build-up will be an issue or not. I have a 35" x 35" x 72" grow tent with a 400w HPS. cCurrently the ambient temp is 69 degrees F inside the tent so I imagine with a normal light the temperature may get too high. Of course I will be running an inline fan for exhaust so that may keep the temp within the optimal range. I'm just not sure which is why I was just going to opt for the air-cooled relector.

long as your not above 85f you should be ok with a decent extraction you should be fine
400w hps is plenty for that area not sure what you mean by normal light

Ah sorry , I realize how my last post might be confusing. I meant to say that I will be using a 400w HPS in the tent, not that I have one already. Currently the temp is sitting at 69 with no light in there. By "normal" I just meant a light that is not air-cooled. Again, my concern is that the 400w non air-cooled light would get too hot. Do you think it would be possible to keep it at 78 degrees with a non air-cooled light as long as I have adequate exhaust. I'm getting a 6" inline fan. Not a duct fan. A centrifugal. Thanks.

i think so you can always buy the shade later

like i said any thing up to 85f should run sweet
