New Grower Waira's 11-strain-in-the-membrane outdoor grow

Well, here we are at 1 month, prior to final transplanting this week for pretty much everybody; nice side branching has started, and a few more are showing signs of sexing,... about 4 days ago, they got a dose of dilute fert's that wasn't quite weak enough, and the result- f*cking nute' burn! :joint: (LOL!) Most cases were mild fortunately,... leaf curl, some tip necrosis, growth stalling.... a couple though, were not amused, as you'll see,... as a group, Stitches strains took it the worst, no doubt... (note to all!) LOL! ... guess it had to happen in order to learn and get some sorta feel for that threshold... impmyride: *watchit boiiii!* :smoke:
(yes, I know there's only nine now! Gigante failed, and Crm. mandarine won't be started for a while yet until I see how things sex/size out; probably end of May, for peak light hours)

<-- and just for fun, scope out these amazing flowers on my White Trumpet Pitcher Plants, a carnivore native to the S-E USA; pitchers are just now forming post dormancy,... first though, it's the late spring comet flower show!! :brow: Don't let the beauty fool you, the plant is a killing machine! Pitchers become so full of dead and trapped bugs the can tip over from the weight... (and they smell super funky! ever wonder what dead rotting bugs smell like?) :roflcry: Mmmm,.. delicious, nutritious....

NUTE BBQ?? Hilarious term, I've never heard it before! I feel I CAN laugh, tho, because I don't see anywhere near the issues you do, dear waira... I see a few leaves curling on only a few plants - not even sure if that would be from over-feeding, but overall they are looking great!

That delicious Purple Kush is already off the chain! Maybe the HBD and one RRF are having a bad hair day :crack:, but I'm quite sure they will get over it. Look how great the color is on all of them! It's so fun watching them develop - your next pics will be fun to compare!

Okay, what's with the killing machine plants in the yard?? Do they attract spiders, by any chance? If so, put me down for a dozen! Seriously tho, think they will help with the aphids and other pests that feast on our plants? Speaking of pests... I found bite marks on just one plant - posting a pic in a moment. I'm not overly concerned, but the NERVE! hahaha

I'm going backwards on this! I saw the other post on the current posts side bar, and jumped to it there, missing you mention it here :joint: (LOL!) ...well, I had to see the pic anyway,... As for the killin' machine, wait 'til you see some fully formed pitchers! The way they're designed, you'd think Mother Nature hated bugs too,... First, the nectar coating on the pitchers' midrib has some kind of 'dope' in it that makes the bugs a bit clumsy and disoriented; when they get to the lip, it's very slick and waxy, making for treacherous footing; last and most diabolical, the underside of the hood is lined with steeply angled hairs, all of which point down into the mouth,... when a bug tries to move any other way, they get poked and deflected by them thur hhhairs....:twist:.... once inside, it's usually too narrow to fully open their wings, and too slippery to climb out... and now, the real horror story begins, for the bug! :firedevil: If they're lucky, it'll be nearly empty inside, and so fall right into the mild digestive liquid at the bottom, and expire quickly...., if not, they perish quite horribly, crawling and rolling around in the dead and dying bodies of earlier victims!!.... Trapped, in the stinking Stygian green darkness,... (queue the lightning) BWAAAHAAAHAAAHAAAaaaa! .....now, time,... and bacteria, are their enemies...... :beast: :roflcry: ... on a nice, still, sunny afternoon, one can hear the faint piteous buzzing of the tormented, and if you get close enough,... you can smell them!! :no: (more lightning) ************************************* hope you enjoyed this edition of 'emoticon theatre', stay tuned for the next macabre, chilling episode: "Near escapes Gone Horribly Wrong".......(true stories! :brow ........ Sorry Saph', spiders usually are one of the few things that can get out again, only because of their safety line...... Aphids might feed on them! They're very easy to grow with few, but strict requirements...

Actually, I'll post some close- ups just for educational purposes; believe me you'll see! The HBD is actually pretty fucked up, like permanently.... The others with milder leaf curl are looking somewhat better after some growing-out, too...

...Ah-haa! Looky who my nute' burn victim turned out to be! Scope the dangle-berries on this HBD..... Boooooo!! (LOL!) Worse still, that's the last decent HBD (the other is a >3" high living misfire, one of the late germ's),....What looked like burnt mini-tips in the crown and on the sides turned out to be BBQ-'nad's .....Good news is, it's likely to be the only one; all the others so far appear to be females! Also, the rest of the gang has been transplanted into final pots with the new soil blend,... no drama, no trauma, not a single droopy leaf! :booya: Another week or so to establish, and then it's time to start diggin' in the spurs as much as I dare,... There's so much to learn on a first run, but I'm glad this first phase is done, with several questions answered about early development/timing, soil choices/changes, nutrition, etc.,....... In about a month, I think I'll start the crm. mandarins, maybe 1-2 others... :smoke:

I was just reviewing your thread to see what HBD stands for but I'm not sure it's spelled out... I'm guessing the D is Diesel, but I have no idea... Help a sister out? Also I see that you have a soil test going on with a few that were started later... Any observations on how they are doing compared to the others when they were at the same age?

* day 33* Man, what a difference not even a week can make! Here's the gang in final pots/soil; 2+gal.- 3gal., and 50/50 OF and Vital Earth... Nice bud crowns are starting on several, along with some nice general 'dopey' aromas developing...However, I'm not seeing the stretching I was hoping for on most of them, considering their age and developmental stage... but let's see what a week brings....
[Sapphire]- Thanks, luv! :smoke:HBD is Himalayan Blue Diesel, a popular strain created by Stitch (Short Stuff & Flash Seeds); sadly, they ended up male and total runt... As for the late germ's that started in the Vital Earth+LW soil blend, no conclusion can be made since these runts have lacked vigor from the beginning...

Oh those ladies are going to increase their rate of growth so let's prepare for take off! Please make sure your seat back is in the upright position and your seat belt is securely fastened! Even now they are so leafy and gorgeous, I think just about all of them are much fuller and more developed than mine at the same age. Check out the height of those B. Lees!! This is so exciting!!

So if you can swing it, it would be fun to see pics every 3 or 4 days so we can marvel at how quickly they are trying to reach the Sun... I checked pics on my computer, and the difference between day 29 (little earlier than your pics) and day 40 is over a foot for some of them - and we (i'm speaking for ALL of us ) are going to need pics on the regular to watch the ride. :dance2: This is when the party starts!

*week 5* Well, the pics pretty much say it all,... healthy, but stubby! I'm not exactly sure why this happened with nearly all of them, except the B. Lee's, maybe Cobra's too... Vertical stretch and side branch development have not really shown up to the party for those strains that should have a taller/bushier build; given the way the buds/stems are developing on several, I don't expect much enlongation (and more nodes) beyond sheer bud growth alone now; main stems are particularly stout, begging a question about if, like some other plants, auto's respond to persistent wind by growing shorter and reducing branching...(and it has been rather so this Spring,..... something I'll quiz the Sensei's about, too). Regardless, at this point many of these will likely turn out to be little fireplugs,... *sigh* Time will tell, and there's still a ways to go,... :brow:
