What commercial/shop bought compost can I use for compost tea? (UK)

Hi all,

I've been exploring compost teas for a number of weeks. I, unfortunately, can't get my hands on good quality 'home made' compost.

Is there any commercial compost I can use with out any negative effects?

Many thanks
SS
what part of the world do you hang out mate this will probly make a difference if your state side @Growtogrow may be able to help if your in europe maybe @TheMongol would have some ideas est of luck

Hey there sweetskunk...
I'm not from the UK but I can help you out with composting your own tea making your own tea making tea is really. I make it all the time I've had no prior education to it t essentially can be made several different ways you can use a tea bag style system which most people prefer to use and I don't blame them I'm a sloppy tea guy. I dont use a bag but for those of you that like to be a little cleaner you can use a sock you can use a tablecloth a hanky a fiber bag many different ways to make a tea bag you start out with putting ingredients in it and again I don't use recipes I don't hardly measure ever rarely I'm from the US I live in a city but I'm hillbilly farmer straight up.

So with that being said Don't expect any logical measurements from me...LoL but I can tell you what to do I don't know what kind of guanos you can get in the UK I'm unfamiliar I'm sure there's something you can get there though and your garden centers.
So bat guano sheep alpaca llama seabird all these guano's are great to use in your tea I got say I use a handful of any one of those depending on what stage my plant is at. So it be in the vegetative state or rather it be in the flower state dictates which one of those guano's I'm going to use.
I also actually use tea bagged tea that you drink everyday coffee and coffee grounds Coffee will give you a more acidic soil cannabis like acidic soils but not too acidic you got to watch out on how much you use but I use quite a bit of that as well.
worm castings big plus. I also use dark brown sugar molasses coconut milk Brown sea kelp you should be able to get that in the UK right off your shorelines you guys got some of the best sea kelp on a planet on your north west shorelines that washes up after good storm on your West Coast I'll also use bone meal and blood meal humic acid a little bit of Epsom salts and a little bit of garden lime Dolomite lime if you will. Again I don't use recipes so you better read your instructions on the box and then use your own judgment to how much you think your plants can handle you learn that way learn to read your plants they will talk to you every day you just got to know how to talk their language.
I know this probably didn't help you alot but it gives you an idea in order to be a good farmer in order to be a good cannabis farmer you have to learn by trial and error everybody's on this site as got some kind of information for you to gather from so get your glasses on start reading you'll learn the ways.

So I put all those ingredients like I said I don't use a tea bag I just dumped them right straight in the five gallon bucket that I'm going to use to make my tea in and I'll fill that bucket up about halfway with Rainwater I'll stir it generously every few hours and every time I walk by that bucket I gave her a good stir I throw a air stone in there hooked to an air pump fish tank air pump will work fine and continuously pumping air to it you have to pay attention if you put your sugar and molasses in there because it will foam up very quickly and grow on that air stone within 24 hours. so the tea once it's made up I'll add water to finish off the rest of that bucket totaling a five gallons of tea to feed my plants with if you have a smaller number of plants with small pots then make your tea according to your size again I grow on a larger scale so that's probably why I don't measure a lot I just use shovel full of this and a shovel full of that and a half a cup of this and a gallon of that whatever that's how I mix that's why don't have recipes for nobody. But this t is good for about two days maybe three at the outside depending on the temperatures.

You can also make compost tea but first you have to make compost or buy compost rather be organic I rather it be just commercial grade compost everything applies though same with or without a tea bag with air stone or without a air stone. you have to stir at least once a good stir every 4 to 6 hours during the daytime hours especially it can't sit for too long it'll get nasty but sometimes a nasty T's is the better t on the other hand???
Sometimes you have to use your own discretion what a good tea emmymade in 24 hours no problem also sometimes In the Heat of the summer I'll do a no air stone tea and let it sun-baked all day long just stirring it a couple of times during that day and then feed it to him that night is a hot tea Brew it shit be stinking. But there's a notable difference in the morning the girls always pray to the sun god.

Well I hope I didn't screw your mind up too much LoL...
but I give you a lot of good ideas every grower has their own style you learn from everybody else and then pick out your own way good luck to you buddy grow on grow bro Happy New Year [emoji482][emoji481]

So I sent you a few pics of different ingredients I used in different tea mixes along the way you can see from the pictures of what I use in the mixs and again I just do pinched this and scoop of that or handful of this handful of that I don't measure I'm sorry I can't give you a recipe to follow.
Maybe someday I'll get off my lazy hillbilly ass and write one up but until then use your own intuition and learn how to talk plant that's your best bet.[emoji482]

Wow thank you for such a lengthy reply. Tons of info there, so thank you!

Now don't let me seem unappreciative of your help and info but here is my situation a bit more in-depth and the biggest question I have concerning compost tea.

I want to keep my tea basic, I am a very inexperienced organic grower and I want to make small changes to my growing process.

I currenly grow with BiozBizz light mix and BiozBizz nutes.

My main reason for wanting to use a compost tea is purely, at the moment, to increase my microheard and fungal friends within my soil. I'm not too concerned about making my tea nutritionally beneficial in terms off NPK and trace minerals. I want to start simple.

My understanding is the compost is the source of the micros and fungi. Molasses is added to feed the micros and pump for O2. Other additives are for a nutritional boost?

My biggest concern is using the right compost to start with. As I can't make my own or source decent homemade stuff, I need to resort to shop bought compost.
Can I use any shop bought compost without damaging my plants. Does shop bought stuff contain the micros I'm after?

Again thanks for all of your help, I really do appreciate it
