Lighting What size led do I need?

how much that Mars run you Pop?I didnt see a price in your thread or where ya got it at..Id imagine ya didnt get it off amazon eh?lol heck maybe ya didnt,i just know the better deals tend to be elsewhere sometimes lol Thanks! That Vipar is a nice looking light too.Thank you!

I meant to say that's the Vipar version of a reflector panel, quite possibly my next panel if I can persuade the wife I need another panel when I really don't :(

I would love to get the 1144x3 to put in my tent for the spring and early fall to do 2 or 3 plants or keep what I might have going on going later pop do you reckon that 144 would handle 2 or 3 2 gallon pots maybe even the next one down? What is it 98x3 or something like that? Or I was looking at the old 200x3 seems like that would be a good bit of light for the money

so lemme ask ya man.? i got a 5X5 tent..would one cover all corners?if so what size and cost am i looking at roughly? something decent quality that aint gonna break right outta the box lol any recommendations?:Sharing One:

The Mars II 1600w will cover a 5'×5' area, and runs just under $600

Does the 200x3, 98x3, etc. mean number of bulbs/watts of each bulb? If it does you might not find that Vipar is very kind to younger plants as it's 180x5w bulbs which'll mean you need at least a 2m tall space to hang it high enough!

What impact does height have on the light purchasing decision? This will be my first ever grow and I'll be in a closet with a total area of 2'x4'x4'-5'(slanted ceiling). I am leaning Mars Hydro reflector series... Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Bilbo 3x100 means 100 three watt bulbs which is what Mars uses in their old style lights and the reflector sries, The Mars II uses 5 watt bulbs. I with Bandit a Mars II will make you very happy and is a great bang for the buck. I've got 140x5W bulbs 26" above my seedlings which works.

Hi BayBaked, Mars recommends 18"-24" of vertical height for their Mars II here's the chart for the lights:

Recommended hanging distance

I have a Mars II in 26" of vertical space and it works well. I think the 5 watt diodes keep the plants short in my limited space. Take a look at my current grow in my signature if you're interested:)

So going by jack's chart you estimate how tall your plants will get plus their container and take that from the height of your tent to give you how much room you've got for your panel.

In your case it would be fair to say that as long as the plants and container don't get taller than 3' you should be good for 12-18"" clearance taking into consideration actually hanging the light will take up a few inches.

Don't get stressed thinking you haven't got enough height though, once the plant is tall enough to be too close you'll be near harvest anyway and a few crispy leaf edges near the top won't hurt. Plus you've got many years of combined experience with the people on here to help you learn how to keep the plants low and bushy!
