What to use to get rid of gnats ?

Hey all, recently started a new grow up in some Roots Organics Original that I amended with some dry nutrients, worm castings, and great white microbes at the beginning. Sometimes I've been seeing little bugs crawl on the soil and fly out, also been seeing some actual bigger flys around inside the tent. Are these fungus gnats or what? I've got one plant on day 17 that's thriving, no problems at all and another seedling on day 4 in the same mix with no problems. But I also had a forgotten cookies seedling sprout about an inch out and flop over and die the next day, then had another seedling only grow a small tap root then die before she even opened her first set of leaves. All seeds were soaked in PhD water for 24 hrs then straight into the 2 gallon rain science pots with a humidity dome. Don't know if the failed seeds were related to the bugs or not but either way I need some suggestions on things I can buy to get rid of the pests.

So You want to join the fungus gnat brigade I see. Well your going to need sticky traps, diatomaceous earth or beneficial nematodes. The sticky traps (kill and identify) and the diatomaceous earth (top dress to kill larvae) is all that I have used before including hydrogen peroxide (kill larvae) to control them. Do not over water they love that. Good air flow is another plus. My order for the nematodes just arrived and I do not have experience with them before, but I have read a little. It sounds like the nematodes do a bang up job. Good luck just a few thoughts from a fellow fungus gnat warrior. I use the same potting soil and the bags have air holes where the bugs can get in and have a nice pad. I empty my soil now in a compost pile for a few weeks (at least) before using it in a grow now because of the little buggers.

Sticky trap and Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis. Get the liquid for ponds it needs only one drip in your water. I always pretreat or use on initial waterings, one additional time. It seems some people have complained about roots soil for having gnats. Using bio biz light mix I get 1 or 2 gnats a grow.

Any of you all ever use this stuff thought about maybe getting some? Definitely gonna snag some diatomascus earth, hopefully they don't kill off my plants before the stuff arrives.

I'm ordering the diatomascus earth today, does it matter which brand I get there is like 20 different kinds lol. I found those same nematodes as well, do I need nematodes and diatomascus earth to kill them out or will just the DE do the trick

DE is messy and only works well when the top soil is dry.. I would use sticky traps for the Flyers (adults) and gnatrol BTI for the larvae in the soil.

Already ordered a bag of DE a few minutes ago hopefully I don't mess anything up with it and it works. I can get stick traps to hang in the tent for now as well.

I think all that is needed is a Bt toxin product - will kill the larvae. DE just stops (or helps stop) the insects from getting into the soil/medium to lay their larvae.

First line defense (because you can buy these locally most everywhere) Yellow sticky traps, hang all around the tent inside and out. Diatomaceous Earth, sprinkle on the dry surface of the pot. This will hold you over until you can get some mosquito dunks which are a biological control not insecticidal. Break one up in some water for a few minutes then water in to the pot. Repeat if the gnats persist. Get some Nematodes If you do not want to use mosquito dunks. There is something sinister about sending in an army of worms .

It appears so ManOGreen, mates have them, i always got them lol about, I use Gnatrol couldnt get it this time so settled for a expensive bottle of Tanlin ( nor nilnat as it was called) with a google search appears someone on another forum mentioned its smiliar to Diatomaceous Earth, they sallow it and larve die with it swells within them
