I'm just at the end of week 2 and one of my plants has got some strange looking leaves going on, it did have a bit of a stunted start to life compared to my other, it's about half the size.

What's up brother. Great job using the template. Look sometimes your leaves just look that way sterling out. Temps and lights can be the cause if there not naturally like that but there will be other signs. Your setup looks spot on and light seems good. Just keep doing what your doing for now. I had one look like that in my last run and turned out to be a real beauty in the end. The leaves look perfectly healthy so as for now. Keep on keeping on my friend

I would not worry too much yet. High amounts of nitrogen can cause this. Don't sweat it too much though. Your plant although dose not look normal will probably be fine and grow out of the deformity. Your new growth looks fine and healthy. If another plant in the future has a weird growth pattern to it than I would look at your grow medium but as of now I think your fine. My current plant a Purple Kush has some weird waiving and leaf deformities similar to yours from me adding too much steer manure to my mix. Are you feeding veg nutes as of yet. If so back off and only use plain water for a little while. Have you fed at all yet and when?

Haunts, what's up bud? ...looks like some sort of cell division misfire, since it's just that one set of leaves-- anything but uncommon! Also, seeds themselves are variable things, and not all are going to be "winners", just part of the normal craps-shoot nature with them :smoking:... N tox. does not cause this type of deformation, besides, you've done little to no grow nutes yet anyway, right? Did you get your soil pH probe yet? Accurate 8 makes a good one for the $$,... once you get one, you'll never look back, especially doing that lame run-off testing method, so much can go wrong with that.... always best to monitor pH, adjust you feeds, etc., vs. trying to fix it after the fact! .... not familiar with this brand-- looks like a very simple formula in there,...check the bag and see if they put any form of lime in there-- that's a buffering agent and slow release of Ca and Mg (if it's dolomite)... if not, you'll really have to be mindful of pH swings in the soil! Peat is naturally mildly acidic, feeds are very acidic,... you water source, depending on hardness, can help some,... might be time to start weak ferts too, if there's nothing in the soil but that humic stuff/stimulant,...

Ya N tox will do this look at the rest of the leafs. See how the first lower set is wavy and how the new leaf set has darker green at the tip. The tips of all the leafs are trying to turn down. New soil can be hot out of the bag. I have a purple kush going now that is sensitive to nitrogen that has similar symptoms.

Thanks everyone as always. Hey Waira, all good here. Just trying to keep my sanity being a parent of two. Hope you're good? I did indeed buy a ph meter I think it's just an unbranded accurate 8, what a beast it is though it's about twice the height of my little pots, I used it in my last grow but it just sounded like it was ripping through the roots with its girth. I checked my soil ph before I planted the seeds and it was fine. Should I be just leaving the meter in the soil through out the grow? As for the soil, it's made in the uk and seems quite popular here, I've not tried anything else but when this runs I think I might. I'm not sure if it contains dolomite but the website says this Soil Supreme is a unique blend of sphagnum peat, Fytocell foam and our very own Organic Growth Stimulant, if that means anything.

Both of these plants are in the beginning stages of N toxic. They have not had any feedings just the soil they were planted in. See the similarities in the leafs? The first single sets are wavy and the tips of my leafs are wanting to turn down.

You know I don't see any vermiculite or pearlite in your mix. Not that it has any thing to do with your problems but I would mix a little in next grow. There is probably something else mixed in for aeration and I am just not seeing it but I don't buy a soil mix unless it has one of the 2. If it is a peat based it has to either have some serious calcium from some were or there is lime in it otherwise your plants would be suffering from low PH by now and I am pretty sure that's not your problem. Every time my PH drops my leafs get dark green like N toxic but the centers of the new growth gets light yellow and in extreme cases I have had the plants turn purple and yellow. The stems turn purple and the bottom of the leafs turn purple. Looks cool but the plant stops growing too.

...Joe, my opinion is that bilateral malformation is from the leaf getting caught between wanting to be one or two leaves, that specifically is what I'm referring to, and the color break is a common co-symptom of this... agreed, wavey growth can be attributed to N-tox, or several other things young leaves are prone too; that tip curl is from the uneven growth pattern,... N-tox would very likely also show in darker green leaves more or less all over, since this didn't happen overnight,.. new growth doesn't always color up evenly; factor in the flash and reflective sheen on the leaves, and it's not a solid call IMO that the tips are that kind of dark... first thing to confirm is if there's any N source in there or added, before N-tox should even be considered,...


Haunts, from what I can find, it's a very light mix nutrition-wise... that organic stimulant is likely humic acids, not an N source...Most importantly, have you feed at all? ...-yeah, the probe is a freakin' spear! ..test near the edge, that'll help.... Joe makes a good point about the perlite-- that peat based soil needs some, so when you transplant, add perlite in, say 10-15% for starters, and see what it looks like, and some lime, either dolomite (very fine grained), Ag lime, or something similar,... see what you have locally!

They had one feed last night at half dose of the PM schedule. And you are right the organic stimulant in the soil is Humic and Fulvic acids, with regards to the perlite i found this info on my soil ' Plant Magic is the first company to add Fytocell to the mix instead of Perlite. We have always rated Fytocell very highly as a growing media improver due to its unique structure and aeration properties - Fytocell will always hold around 40% air regardless of the environment. Fytocell is included in the Plant Magic Soil at a rate of 7-10%.
I won't be potting up because i do micro grows so they're already in their final pots, I've got some of this garden lime http://www.diy.com/departments/verve-garden-lime/228569_BQ.prd i'm guessing its the same thing as dolomite?
