normally, seeds are directly sewn into their final pots.
However since we are beginning the autopot/biotabs plunge, its recommended to start seeds then transplant.

So, my question is this. What is the best time to transplant after seed breaks the surface? Is there a magic day range, or when a certain happy leaf appears?

I really want to do this by the books, since hubby half asses a lot, and get a good base to work forward from.

Ok, I'm going to preface this by saying, right up front, I have killed more seedlings than I have harvested. So take my advice with a grain of salt. With autoflowers I still prefer to start right in the pots. I do soak the seed overnight before sticking it into the coco. I just don't stick the BioTabs into the pots until the seedling is established when using them. With photos I still prefer to start the seed with the paper towel method.

Although, I really believe that each grower has to find the method that works best for them. :smoking:

NARF!!!
heheheheh
k what I do is wait until the leaves reach the pot.. from birds eye view,
after a week... maybe a bit more... true leaves will definitely be showing

in my opinion best time to transplant an auto is before the root hits bottom of the pot and get bound.. may stunt/delay it

Did Biotabs recommend transplanting seedlings?Although autos can be transplanted if done right the majority of growers plant seed in there final pot.this eliminates stress and is the prefered method. If you have to transplant, wait until you have at least two or three sets of true leaves and make sure the soil is moist and try and keep a big ball of soil around the root ball to not expose the roots than set it in the predug hole and firm soil a little and water it in.

According to their instructions, including autopot specific, the seedlings are transplanted in, then the initial watering to settle transplant should be enough to last the week before turning on the system.

Bear in mind that the instruction manual is for 'normal' plants I believe, and not cannabis. Therefore I would imagine with Auto's it may be slightly different. I'm about to run Biotabs & Autopots too so watching this thread with interest.

im just gonna shoot from the hip and follow directions. Taking the advice above, ill do as normal, and wait for the third node to start out from stalk. The girls popped above soil yesterday, so ill tag you in my journal.

Done right, you'll see no difference between a transplant and one started in the pot. In fact, I'm of the opinion that with some strains, auto or not, they take off faster after a transplant. I use 1 quart containers and transplant when the leaves are the width of the pot. That indicates you have roots to the bottom of the pot, bur no, or little circling. I see new growth withing hours of transplant, they don't miss a beat!
