im in the curing phase, i harvested two weeks ago and bottled up on 11/22 last thursday.

Im wondering when my bud will smell better? Right now id say it must be what they call a partially grassy smell at least. I open up the mason jars up every day for about 10 or 15 minutes, the jars have one bovedw 62% pack and a hygrometer each. The RH in the jars is between 62-70% depending on bud sizes in the jar. The popcorn was drier at harvest than the larger buds.

Im not complaining but i am wondering when I can expect a good dank smell.

It can depend on strain , some have very little smell and some a strong smell , just remember It has nothing to do with quality .
I gave some a try tonight and it smoked ok, it just doesnt have the smell i was expecting. Its getting better though.

I find around a month to settle on the smell.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking. I guess EVERYTHING is a wait when it comes to growing!! Grrrr...

I love the bag cure! But i modified a bit. I hang dry until edges are crispy, then a quick manicure before bags. Leave in bags until you can squeeze buds and they sponge back up. Jar after that and its good to go. I dont use a meter just check jar after a couple hours to make sure its not still wet. How did you dry? No light with fresh air is ideal. Just slight breeze works perfect.

"If your tired of getting that hay smell with your bud try this..
When I use to grow autos and drying my method was to wet trim and hang, then I tried paper bag method (which was okay) but I was still left with fresh cut grass slightly hay smell and no terps whatsoever.. The best way to dry is to do a whole plant hang with large fan leaves taken off for 10 days at 60% humidity and 17C. THEN trim your bud and jar it up. I guarantee you that your bud will be so much more flavourful and louder compared to wet trim. I changed to dry trimming and I've never looked back and everyone else who has changed to dry trimming has said the same." I dont think i can handle mine any louder! My whole house reeks until i bag mine. But basically the same thing as i do only no bag. But mine hang dry for about 7-10 depending on how wet it is then to a bag. I feel the bag draws that green taste out faster. Cause i can smoke right after bag.

Iam getting better results in the smell department since I started hanging the whole plant, but I do wet trim ..a rough trim . I used to go by the the RH + a day rule whenever hanging individual stems . As in, RH 40%= 4days +1= 5days drying time. With whole plant, I'm adding maybe 2-3 more days because if the added moisture in stalk and whole branches....In my opinion, I have not ran into the dry hay smell, or has been greatly reduced since whole plant hanging. Once they are in jars about a week, pop the lid..and it hits you even harder!
