Nutrients Where have i gone wrong with biotabs/autopots?

Ok wow so many replies quickly with a load of good info. Yeah i will post pictures of both after work tonight for everyone and updates as she hopefully improves. From what you are all saying it seems like a combination of mistakes on my part that completely make sense.

Im inclined to agree after more reading that its not a nitrogen toxicity it doesnt fit with how it looks and biotabs seem to produce the lush dark green plants for everyone.

I barely ever watered them by hand as id made myself paranoid about overwatering, so ive probably (more like definitely) not given time for the roots to develop enough as she was a couple days behind the other which coped with the switch. Then switched the pots on and drowned it anyway combined with roasting her under cobs.

Its really only the 2 things it could be? The soil is definitely not dry down there when ive stuck my finger in so i doubt its overwatering. Its pretty boggy actually. The leaves felt dry which is why it wasnt the first thing i thought of but maybe they always do? Or the overwatering combined with me slow roasting them has caused that.

Im starting another 2 soon and putting my learning to use lol. My amendments will be:

30% coco added to soil
1l pebbles in the bottom
1-2l pebbles mixed through the medium
Hand water until week 5
Dont cook the plants.

Sound good? Or anything else im forgetting?

Thanks for the help guys learned so much from here already but so far still to go. Ill definitely be catching up on your grow blue to see how it should be done :smoking:.

Thanks all really appreciate the help hopefully soon ill be able to help... (maybe not at this rate)

A great response from all the AFN homies you have it all now mate next.time starting off hand water anywhere from 100 ml to 200ml every other day or so and slowly.increase the amounts as time goes on also when.not feeding from the bottom lift the pots up get used to the weights with and without water you should get a feel for.if the pot is too light or two heavy this will help tell you when.to water also one more lil tip for the first few day dont put the seedling direct under the light putthem off to the side for a.few days then move them.in closer you should start a thread in the biotabs section or new growers and hit me with a tag @stoneyT and il follow along for the show [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]

For your next ones give pure coco a try mate, with 2 inches or so of perlite in the bottom almost covering air dome. Very hard to have overwatering issues with coco. Works a treat with tabs and autopots. Easier to hand water young babies too. Plus fast growth. No need to mix anything into the coco (perlite etc) as it won't improve anything.

(I don't sell coco lol)

I would disconnect her from the res and hand water for a bit to get some roots developing. Got any root stim of any sort? Being on the auto watering with small root system will do terrible things to a plant.

I sent my flat mate to buy some coco yesterday so we will be able to prepare the substrate ready for planting.
With 100% coco will there be any other issues to watch for? Sorry for the short badly typed reply but at work and had people over last night unexpectedly so went in to stealth mode.

Full update later with pictures of both and hopefully get in to the roots also.

We have interesting developments which ive narrowed down to either cal/mag or root rot so probably neither:smoking:

Also ill definitely be doing a journal with uodates on these 2 and the new ones.

Thanks again, stay tuned and exercise your grey matter ready for the disaster later!

Thinking of your flat mate fetching coco makes me think of the movie Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels. "You're walking down the road with a semi-conscious Gloria and a large bag of fertiliser. You don't look like your average horti-fucking-culturist Willy!" :crying:

Coco can be tricky with calmag, but the advantages are manifold imo.

Funny you should say that he actually brought a girl back with the coco. That was the unexpected visitor but luckily she was fully conscious :crying:

Condition update: She still looks horrendous but seems to be holding her leaves up better and looks healthier. She's now developed a weird lighter green shade on the most recent growth and browning/spots which seems worse since even this morning. This was what had me wondering if its cal/mag deficiency that i've read about when growing under cobs.

Also we decided that since we've already stunted her most likely, we both wanted to learn how to pull a leaf off cleanly for light defol if needed at some point in future grows, now might be an opportune moment to try as she's already messed up so surely cant get worse right? So turns out its pretty easy so that was pointless but i've been thinking about it literally all day today at work. It now seems pretty stupid to take leaves off a small sick plant for no purpose. So theres another rookie mistake ticked off (i'm on a roll with this grow :woohoo1:)

I dug down to try to see the roots too but couldnt find many to be honest so i'd say that probably has something to do with it like most people mentioned. Didnt dig down too far was scared of hurting her more than I already have but maybe not root rot as what I could see was white but again i dont know anything yet (soon )

Sister to me looks good, that's only in comparison though and she has turned darker green now as was quite pale green (i'd convinced myself that was due to fast growth ) so seems like again you guys nailed it with light stress from only seeing the poorly one with no bleaching on it and a bit of info so  on both counts.

Also 2 new seeds in a moist paper towel in a dvd case in the tent, clay pebbles being washed and coco has been bought and ill be starting a journal soon, not sure where yet and i'll make sure to tag you in stoneyT (how do i do that? :smoking:)

Pictures (please ignore my horrific first attempt at lst)

The calmag def can be because of overwatering mate. I have some leaves of shame to prove it on my photo periods !

I def maintain its a bit of overwatering due to being on the autopot without enough roots to drink the water, and the light too close.

Reckon you've got it sussed dude :pass:
