New Grower why go auto?

I am new to growing, so take this for what it is worth.

I purchased some auto seeds a while back and was given a photo as a freebie. I grew 3 Blue Mystic Autos along with a Northern Lights photo. And as much as I am excited about harvest day on the NL, I am chomping at the bit to begin my new auto grow. I think autos are amazing plants...I was able to pull over an ounce off each despite the fact that I am a complete noob. Autos are very rewarding to grow...it is awesome to be able to enter the garden any time you like-- and not worry about the light schedule.

As far as:
i was thinking of making hash out of mine, because if autos are not as strong as photos i should have a milder hash.
I have made EXTREMELY strong oil out of my blue mystics. From a newb's perspective, my autos were crazy strong. The method you use for making your hash (type of hash) is going to determine its strength. If for example, you are melting your trichs to produce and oil -- and you use high quality (SAFE) solvent, you are going to be able to produce oil in the high 90% range. As strong as any oil that you will find (photo or auto).

I have committed to autos exclusively at least for now. I have NO problem paying for quality genetics...I love the idea of having my seeds waiting and ready to go. Also, by preserving my genetics in seed form...not futzing around with clones...It is easy for me to stop my grow and start it again anytime I want...no need for a mother plant to hassle with. Oh yeah, I can toss a few seeds outside if I want for some extra yield...small enough for stealth outside grow...and all but guaranteed to produce independent on the time of year...so long as temps etc permit.

Might I ask the OP why he thinks the two are mutually exclusive? I grow both photos and autos (though autos are my love, I'm like peppy le pew with them) and don't understand why everyone thinks it's one or the other. I'll vege photos while flowering autos in the same tent then up-pot the photos when I cut the autos and switch to 12/12. In the mean time I have a growing bonsai mom collection in my cab that I also flower out autos in. I'm small time so every square inch is precious to me. In the mean time I'm flowering autos out back in the spring while vegging my guerrilla photo plants in the same little greenhouse.

The most potent pot I've grown was an auto and I also like having a variety around, as do my friends when they need some meds. In the time it takes some of my photo growing friends to pull one crop down I've got two or more in.

It's all cannabis, where did this whole auto vs. photo gripe even come from.

I mean, it's just a plant man! :smokeit:

i called troll bait because the guy dropped the existential question about autos then is completely absent from the rest of the thread.

OP here, the reason i was absent from the rest of the tread is because i went away from the computer, simple as that, time zones being different and all.

thanks for the replies, i wouldnt be on here if i wasnt curious about autos, i am currently growing both autos and photos.
its just that i have heard a lot of people on other forums saying that they hate autos, so i go to the auto forum and ask the growers here why the choose these plants.
my real question was what exactly are the trade offs, which according to you guys there are none.
so hopefully il be back on here with some auto grow reports, and hopefully il be high as a kite too.

If you ask me autos are more for experienced growers. Any mistake could cost you alot off the final outcome. If you can grow them to the best of their ability you can get great smoke in a very short amount of time.

Lol pretend weed? Isn't that the legal bud? There's no pretending about some of the autos I've got stashed away. Some of the best bud around. The only disadvantages of autos is they don't have the many years of breeding as a photo.

very true and well put my friend:)

Hey Furrything. You have asked a valid question and I would be happy to give you my honest reply. First let me start by saying anything that you have learned or heard on any other site that has photoperiod plants as a focus should be forgotten immediately. That's not to say that everything you have heard is wrong. It's just that when you look at all of the info from elsewhere as a whole, about 60 to 70 percent of it is BS pure and simple. It's too hard to weed out the right from wrong, so just start with a clean and open mind. The information you will find here will be accurate, that I can promise you.
Now on to my 2 cents in the epic auto vs photo. Autos don't require as much expensive ferts as photos saving you cash. Interrupting light cycles wont kill your grow. Autos just like photos have a wide range of potency depending on the quality of the genetics and the quality of the grower. Autos can finish in a much shorter life cycle. Autos will grow under any light cycle 12 hour, 24 hour, 18 hour and so on. Your yield will reflect the amount of light they see in their lifetime. The size is in your benefit when trying to be stealthy. They tend to have higher CBD content.
Cons- no cloning or typical yield maximizing like pruning, exceptions are leaf tucking and LST. If you encounter a problem, you are going to see an impact and not have enough time to recover from most of them. Higher incidents of runts/dwarf plants percent wise.
I personally love both autos and photos. One does not cancel out the other. For my indoor I use a 4x4 tent. 2x4 of that is dedicated to autos, and the other 2x4 is dedicated to my photos. I adjust my light schedule to fit my photo grow and the autos are happy no matter what. I can get 2 cycles of autos per 1 cycle of photo typically. 50% more yield and plenty of variety in the same amount of time. Outdoor growing I can get 3 cycles of autos per 1 cycle of photos. But I would rather have photos outdoors, this is due to the monster sizes capable when doing a proper outdoor photo grow.
Hope this helps, and remember this is only my opinion. I encourage you to form your own based on what you learn yourself and not based on others alone.

my real question was what exactly are the trade offs, which according to you guys there are none.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by trade offs? Could you elaborate?

Another thing I forgot to mention, autos can flower under 20 or even 24 hours of light. That adds up to a LOT of flowering time and people can grow some monster buds with them. I've seen members on here grow 6 ounce MI5s in soil under t5s and Truu recently grew a 10.2 ounce plant in less than eighty days I think, surely less than 90 (someone correct me if i'm wrong there) in dws with hps.

10.2 ounces in less than 90 days? Not bad.

Oh and one last thing, he's not a troll guys. Lets not be so quick to call names, we're all here to grow pot
