Actually, it seems that there are processes that take place, only in the dark, so it seems, at least a short dark period IS beneficial to plants. I've been reading on Cannabis biology and it's fascinating!
yes it sure is pop and there are processes which reach an entropic state and production of certain systems stop and need a rest.
This will happen naturally in the dark period, it will also happen in a 24 light system, the plant will simply shut down certain processes due to self regulation. At this moment in the plants growth cycle the light can be considered as wasted energy it is true.
It may be also considered slightly detrimental the to the plants growth cycle but not to the point where it is critical that it happens, especially so with autos which don't rely on the destruction photo period hormones by light to be able to flower.
It would probably be beneficial for me to have some dark period and find other methods to keep the environment regulated to my specifications but not beneficial enough to make much difference to my yield.
The great thing about a forum is we get to see other peoples methods & I see lots of great grows from growers using different light schedules and growing techniques as long as it produces good result then the grower should be happy.
Total respect goes to anyone who can squeeze out a bit more weight or save a few extra quid/bucks on energy costs by better light cycles.
Whilst my plants aren't pampered they do get it pretty good 5 start accommodation and food, I set up my room and they do the rest maybe a little hair cut here and there if leaves are stopping light to bud sites or need more air movement to avoid mold issues.
I am very happy with my yields for the space I have to work with and maybe I could get some more weight, but all my weed is for me and it is hard enough to get through it as it is lol.
Right now it would seem to me one of the best ways to save on power would be to purchase a GN HS1 (I know this doesn't relate to light cycle but it is a money/energy saver)
