Hi everyone
I know that many of you out there might think I am foolish or even insane to waste such precious time, energy and seeds to the windowsill growing method.
My windowsill is actually a lovely bay window in my dining room that gets lots of southeastern light. I have placed my dracaena, Christmas cactus, tricolor rubber plant and a couple of pothos in this room and they LOVE it! In fact, my christmas cactus has been flowering since November without pause!
I realize windowsill growing may not be ideal, but I don't have money to spend on lighting equipment. Below I have included a pic of my bay window to show how much light comes into the space. At this moment, I am not too concerned about my neighbors looking in. I am also hoping that by 2015, legislature in my state will legalize it once and for all. It is already decriminalized and those with more severe medical issues can get a medical card.

ANYWAY, to get back to the point, is anyone out there doing the windowsill growing method, particularly with Jock Horror?
I tried doing a search in the network for windowsill growing, and got more than I bargained for, but I will try again.
I did find a site yesterday put out by someone who goes by the name Percy Growing, whose been successfully doing windowsill growing in Belgium for years. I can't contact him directly.
His site:

I know that the yield will be less and it may take longer to grow, but does anyone know how much longer I can expect to grow using this method?

I will also start a grow journal as soon as my Nirvana JH germinate!

P.S.
It is SIGNIFICANTLY brighter in the dining room than it appears in the picture :niceshot:

Hey mate - I can´t comment on the windowsill grow because I have never done it, but have you considered what to do about the smell? When I first started growing I wasn´t too worried about stealth and didn´t bother with any odor control. That changed quickly as soon as I had my first flowering plants! Don´t underestimate just how much a flowering plant will smell. It will lead people to your door unless you take steps to deal with it!

the smell is definitely something I have considered. Right now, because it's quite cold where I live (more sub-zero temperatures tonight--yay!), my windows will remained closed until late Spring, so the smell isn't an issue at the moment (and I don't really get any solicitors or visitors). I will have to reevaluate the smell as it gets warmer. But most people here mind their own business, if not use marijuana themselves.

There is no reason why you can't grow in a windowsill. There are reasons why you might not want too. The law may not be the worst problem you face, poachers. But, you know your area so if smell is no issue and you are not worried about others, go for it. The amount of time to grow out won't change just yeild. A few things to remember about autos. Don't transplant, sow seed in grow pot. Once the seed is up don't over water. Use nutes at 1/4 recommended rate at first, increase over the grow. Pot is a weed not a flower don't treat the same. Try and keep ph between 6.3-6.8, both soil and water (nutes). Use soil that has seed starter nutes or no nutes at all (FF light warrior, pro-mix). Get an old lamp or two, without shades, and some CFLs (compact flourescent bulbs) and place them on either side for extra light at night before you go to bed. Have fun, I am. Good luck and good karma.
