New Grower Would you?

Can I ask why everyone here just grows autos and would you ever give autos up and go to photos?

For me I grow autos as I'm able to start them off under a cfl cutting 2weeks of when I stick them in my tent so I can pull bud from my plants 2 weeks quicker than already quick autos .

Thing is now I have a second tent plus my friends buying a second we like the idea of both keeping 4 mums each of 4 different strains and running a hydro set up inside our big tent for cuts. Reason mainly is due to the options of stronger smoke from photos and much better yields.

I would rival any photos potency next to
A dragon or either of the highrise autos... Also think different, imho better than any photo I've tried...I do this, run one tent 12/12 than main tent and other tent are both 18/6, able to run a few photos And autos same time.... You could keep two or three mums in the main tent along with autos and than use second tent for the clones running at 12/12. Would be sweet maybe ill throw a photo mum in the auto tent and see if I can successfully clone any cuttings from it.... Good luck brother in what ever you decide.....

Even though I'm currently on my first grow now(autos), I can say that I would only grow photos if I lived in a MJ friendly state and had a safe and secure outdoor area to grow. But even then I wouldn't give autos up completely, as I would like to grow both.

Growing photos indoors can actually be quicker than autos if you have a mother of the right strain. Some of them only take about 50 days to flower and you can get a whole lot out of a sea of green using clones. I grow both kinds, indoors and out and each has their advantage in certain areas. Sometimes I vege photos in the same tent I'm finishing up autos. Personally I don't see the two as opposing, rather I think they compliment each other well. Let's face it, it's all weed :smoke:

Now, as for you making a few mother plants have I got a space saver for you. You can bonsai mothers and keep them in four inch pots for a LONG time. Some people have kept them going for 6+ years. I do this and it saves me so much room. I can fit 4-6 moms in the place one would take up before. I don't normally link out of site, but I don't think we have this article.

We have a Photo section, mate and there are plenty of us growing them indoors and out. I actually have about twice as many Photos as Autos in my tent currently. But it's Spring time! I am just starting those for 4 weeks before going outdoors. So that will free up a lot of space. I would never go to JUST photos permanently, but I am getting more into Photos this season, because I have several spots I can use outside where I live now. Next year, won't be the same and this is more or less my only chance to grow outdoors for several years probably, so I am running with it full force to an extent. Not going super crazy, because I don't live in a decriminalized state, but I will be growing several Photos and Autos outdoors this year. Only thing grown out all the way inside are Autos though.

My main focus is to get my stock up of several different strains for different needs of mine so that I don't have to worry about making sure I get enough and stressing over that and all, as well as not paying for it. Anything 'extra' will be great and cover my expenses as well as some new gear.

This is my first time growing Photos with good genetics and not 'bag seed' and I am really enjoying it. They seems to grow about twice as fast as most Autos I've grown and have been a joy to watch this past week or so. Also looking forward to the larger yields in Full sun. Of course I need quality because I need Cannabis medically as well as recreational use, but I am also focusing on max yield while I can grow outside. Good question though. Everyone has their own thing. :smokebuds:

Well this won't happen for a while yet if I do decide to give photos a try my mates on holiday till end of may and gonna get the other tent and all the bits needed then. If I see good enough results to convert me then ill be joining him with photos for now I like the idea of being able to try different strains. The think different I grew was just an average smoke and had nothing on the cream caramel imo

The main advantage of autos is that you can give them more light. I know of only one photo strain that will flower given 20 hours of light. It is remarkable that the breeders have paid so little attention to this attribute.

If you have the space to maintain separate veg and flowering rooms, then doing mothers and clones makes a lot of sense. But for small grows autos fit the bill. I grew photos outdoors for many years and autos indoors as my indoor spaces are small. I stopped doing outdoor grows after a couple of chopper scares. I also like the variety I can grow with autos. If you're maintaining mothers you're limited to those strains. With autos I can often do a few plants of 2-3 strains at a time, then next grow do something completely different. I love having that variety in my stash.

Using the bonsai mother tech you can keep quite a few moms in a tiny cab. I have a cab that's 24x14 inches and I have six moms taking up half of it right now. One doesn't need much space to keep them. Before I bought my tent and just had the cab I used to keep a couple of moms on the back of my toilet under one 26w cfl Autos are wonderful and do provide great genetic freedom, but being a small space grower I still fail to see them as mutually exclusive.

I think it's high time we posted that bonsai mother tech in an article/sticky in the photo section here. It's recovered from OG and isn't the intellectual property of any one site or member out there. It would solve the space problems that a lot of members here grow autos for and allow them to diversify their grow tech and genetic background.
