Frost buddy, so far, one sensei isn't sure, another says it's a variegation pattern he's had himself before; it might grow out of it, though cautions it's likely to be weak, runty... still waiting on another,... It's not thrip damage, that's for sure,.... like EoF mentioned, a shot of the underside of leaves would help! But bets hedged, given what DubV said, fingers off the panic button for now! :Cool bud:.....

It could be a TMV, but it almost always due to tobacco users touching the plant as the source of initial infection.
If there is tobacco users present around the plant, he should just go ahead and begin decom and begin to observe proper TMV hygiene.
If he doesn't have an obvious source of infection, it may not quite be killing time.
I think with a "safe" normal variegation, the leaves will appear healthy and the plants growth should be otherwise vigorous, but perhaps a bit slow.
These have new leaves appearing twisted and damaged, which is a concern.
At the very least it should be quarantined, until he has established it is not a threat.

Guys it's just genetic. I have a thunder bloody Mary that looks identical to this one. I've had it in the past. Nothing to panic about. No problems. Its just genetic. She'll grow out of it. Trust me.

No one smokes tobacco in our home either. Sometimes this happens. No need to worry. I have 20+ other plants with it and everyone is fine. It is alarming tho if you've never had one like that before for sure.

My girlfriend smoke tobacco but not in the house and she doesn't touch my garden. I think it could be genetic because I have two northern lights plants growing and both of them has varigated leaves on just isn't as bad as the other.

:thumbs:-roger that guys,... keep in mind virus can be carried into seed as well,...however altogether rare! ... hearing about others having a similar color break pattern appear with them, and no further complications, is encouraging!... pardon the alarms, but having seen what viruses did to some of the orchid stock at the old nursery, and what it takes to sanitize,...makes the ol' brown Cave Starfish twitch- :roflcry:...figure it's best to take a very cautious approach when there's the least possibility in question! GB- yeah, the new growth is looking rumpled, but other things can be behind that as well,...couldn't be sure if it's related or coincidence,... Let's see what a couple-few new sets of leaves show....

I'll take a picture and show you what my Thunder Bloody Mary looks like... I've had this happen a few times a year since I started perpetual.. In my cases it's always the same. The first few sets of leaves have that exact color pattering. Then the mutations will start with the fan leaves. Random number of fingers or fingers growing where they typically shouldn't be. The coloring will never go away however by the 7th - 9th node they will start to work themselves out. The fan leaves may not but the bud sites and such will be. Typically. The stunting yes. That is also there. I have a Hobbit that is the exact same age as it and it's triple the size. Although that's not to be considered in stone because the Hobbit is a huge plant. I often joke that it's the size of a REAL Hobbit lol over 3 foot. Anyway sorry to ramble.. it's the Cream Caramel...

Waira this is your area of expertise (as far as TMV) and not to slight you GB... however I have not ever seen TMV in MJ... if that being the case it would be extremely rare. IMHumbleO... I'm not saying I'm right. I will say having grown a certain breeder, who in the past has had a TON of mutants and "freaks" come out of his strains... I have seen this mutation in his gear many many times... Particularly Assassin... again, not bashing just stating a fact. I have seen this more than once in that strain as well as a few other "freebies" I've been given by various seed banks lol

However, thinking deeper... This is the first time I've had it happen to me with a Fem Bean... always regular... Frost was this seed Regular or Fem? Just curious...

Ive had a good bit of genetics wobbles myself and for TMV maaaan my hands are often dirty and full of smoke residues and just nasty especially with tobakky stuffs and Ive never had it..never even seen it in person.leaves crinkle the whole nine has flipped me out more than a few times..well atleast i offered a small bit of useful info take some more pics lmfao!! I ve had full runs of line through the whole leaves from top to bottem and criss crossing (bad crack'll make ya JUMP JUMP LMFAO) on the whole bottom of the plant..but those are very obvious.

Reb-- not in MJ it's not! :slaps: :roflcry:... that's why I'm whistling up the Sensei's! Different types of viruses have different symptoms too, so TBM is far from the end of the list,....lots of trans-species infections are documented...even in orchids, many of the symptoms can look very similar to some types of fungal and bacterial attacks, if they manifest at all; this is the real horror behind viral infections!... that, and the sheer virulence they have for spreading readily... blow torches were standard issue for sterilizing equipment,... lots of turn-over on them because of this!
