Week 13 - Amber Alert!

I've been watching for signs that it's time to harvest. The fan leaves were yellowing, but not as many as I'd expect. There were still white pistils at the top of the colas but most down lower were dried up. Even the top ones though were showing some wear but it didn't quite seem like it was time yet. In the past I think I've harvested a bit too soon but I'm trying to wait a bit more this year. Then I decided I'd better look at the trichomes. I'm glad I did cuz there were amber trichomes all over the place. The next day I went for the nippers and cut the top off and trimmed it. I prefer the wet trim just because... for no particular reason. Here's the top after trimming.

There are still some white pistils near the top, but not so much at the bottom. I would like to have let more of them dry out but the appearance of the trichomes made me act faster. Also, it seems the bottoms of the colas ripen before the tops so there's no perfect time for the whole thing. You just have to make a compromise to get the best result.

Moving down the plant, examining the trichomes shows there's not too much time to spare. So I've been making one cut per day. Here's what I have so far.

These are the smaller branches. The larger, lower ones are still on the plant which now looks like this.

There's a serious amount of bud still on the plant. These colas are very dense and I think will bud out very productively. Much more than I will need for the year. I'm drying them in my bedroom closet where it's dark and 70-ish degrees most of the time.
I will continue harvesting a branch pair per day until finished.
