Cheers Pal, I see you pretty much sussed the problem already anyway but sometimes its good to get a re-assuring second opinion, fresh set of eyes and all:
Im sure I will need plenty of help, your offer is appreciated bro :smokebuds:
I know the rule of thumb for dwc is usually 5.5 first two weeks then let rise to 5.6-5.7 over the next week untill flower, when you want to increase to 5.8 then gradually to 6. I understand this is to optimise the availabiltiy of desired nutrients at various growth stages. BUT.. there is always a but, On the ph/nutrient availabilty chart (i think vira has a copy?) magnesium is not available untill 5.8 only calcium is available at 5.7 and below. The other thing I notice is everything seems to be available at 5.8 bar maganese, so why not leave it there the whole grow, with the exception of maybe seedling stage? Plus i think i read somewhere that most root stims are a micronutrient mix with extra phosphorus to encourage root growth? However phosphorus is not readily available at the low ph required at the start (5.5). This can get confusing! It seems like ratios would be a better way to manipulate nutrient availability rather than locking out nutrients with ph to encourage more uptake of another? just a thought but im sure there is a reason for the way its done anyhow.
Another thing to consider is whatever benefit of having ph at 5.7 gives i would say having mag available is more important as this effects end yields significantly? maybe not at the start (seedling) but at your stage of growth I would assume so?
Sorry to bombard you with these long posts, maybe i should pace myself, after all its only my second post! But i live and breath dwc/led at the min and enjoy sharing that experience with others so no harm i guess?
all the best pal

awesome post Nico. you sound like an expert mate not a new grower lol.
in veg I keep the ph as close to 5.7-5.8 as poss without going over & the oposite for most of bloom (but happy to let it float upto 6.0 before i bring it back down ) ... just how the top boys on here showed me & its worked pretty good so far :stylez rasta smoke:so yea i guess 5.8 is the magic number in DWC
I think the main reason the top growers like to keep there ph below 5.8 in veg is they prefer much less phosphorus at this stage of growth. So I would say that controlling uptake with PH is important

We all know that hydro & LED will increase the cal/mg uptake & take precautions by using lots of the stuff lol.BUT with Pal already at half strength sensi cal & a plant the size it is I doubt more is needed & may cause an overnute lockout .
Just MO & would love to here some more educated opinions on the subject & maybe learn something new too :GoooAuto:
