Lighting 1st DWC grow, BAM by Pal

Cheers Pal, I see you pretty much sussed the problem already anyway but sometimes its good to get a re-assuring second opinion, fresh set of eyes and all :D:

Im sure I will need plenty of help, your offer is appreciated bro :smokebuds:

I know the rule of thumb for dwc is usually 5.5 first two weeks then let rise to 5.6-5.7 over the next week untill flower, when you want to increase to 5.8 then gradually to 6. I understand this is to optimise the availabiltiy of desired nutrients at various growth stages. BUT.. there is always a but, On the ph/nutrient availabilty chart (i think vira has a copy?) magnesium is not available untill 5.8 only calcium is available at 5.7 and below. The other thing I notice is everything seems to be available at 5.8 bar maganese, so why not leave it there the whole grow, with the exception of maybe seedling stage? Plus i think i read somewhere that most root stims are a micronutrient mix with extra phosphorus to encourage root growth? However phosphorus is not readily available at the low ph required at the start (5.5). This can get confusing! It seems like ratios would be a better way to manipulate nutrient availability rather than locking out nutrients with ph to encourage more uptake of another? just a thought but im sure there is a reason for the way its done anyhow.

Another thing to consider is whatever benefit of having ph at 5.7 gives i would say having mag available is more important as this effects end yields significantly? maybe not at the start (seedling) but at your stage of growth I would assume so?

Sorry to bombard you with these long posts, maybe i should pace myself, after all its only my second post! But i live and breath dwc/led at the min and enjoy sharing that experience with others so no harm i guess?

all the best pal

:peace::group:
:welcome:Welcome to AFN bro .. be sure to introduce yourself in the new growers section :welcome:
awesome post Nico. you sound like an expert mate not a new grower lol.

in veg I keep the ph as close to 5.7-5.8 as poss without going over & the oposite for most of bloom (but happy to let it float upto 6.0 before i bring it back down ) ... just how the top boys on here showed me & its worked pretty good so far :stylez rasta smoke:so yea i guess 5.8 is the magic number in DWC

I think the main reason the top growers like to keep there ph below 5.8 in veg is they prefer much less phosphorus at this stage of growth. So I would say that controlling uptake with PH is important
We all know that hydro & LED will increase the cal/mg uptake & take precautions by using lots of the stuff lol.BUT with Pal already at half strength sensi cal & a plant the size it is I doubt more is needed & may cause an overnute lockout .

Just MO & would love to here some more educated opinions on the subject & maybe learn something new too :GoooAuto::peace:

Day 28

Okay so the fresh res doesn't seem to have helped the mg problem, just made the new growth look lighter green so I've upped the EC back to 1.6 just now. It has been less than 24 hours still so hopefully the mag problem will be gone soon (but I doubt it under 24/0 led) just gonna have to wait and see. Roots looks the best they have done at any stage of the grow which is encouraging. Heres some pics..

All of the older leaves have started to get it mate, brown tips curling down on some, green colour fading from tips then spreading through the leaf - dunno what else it could be other than calmag? New growth isn't affected yet but if you check day 27 and compare it today the colours were a lot healthier on 26/27 in comparison to today, gonna give it some more time to try and clear up at 15ml cos that should be plenty. She does continue to grow each day and as I said the roots are looking much better now (I took the water level up by 1L today also) so hopefully she will continue to pull through, might try 20/4 light cycle for the next grow, think I'm asking for trouble with hydro and 24/0 lighting!
This is week 4 now so do you reckon it's almost time for her to stretch period? Wanna see her expand! :smokebuds:

can't see any bad deff in those pics mate ,maybe take some effected leaf pics & put them in the infirmary ?.
I would switch to 20/4 now ?. That rest time may help her out ?:smokebuds::peace:

I didn't know if switching light cycle now would be a good or bad thing but if it's safe to do then I'll set up the timer this evening. I did post to the infirmary but not much response so far, I'll snap a few pics of the affected leaves so you can see what I'm chatting about, just give me 10 mins to polish off this zoot :smokebuds:

zoot lol :X's Evil Laugh x: 20/4 now is fine dude . root pics would be cool bro :smokebuds:

Haha, always call it a zoot! Here's those pics, if it's not mag def maybe nute burn? my best conclusion was mag :D:

What would you say is the cause of the brown/dry tips then buddy? My soil 16oz comp NL has it also so it can't be DWC specific?
