Lighting 1st DWC grow, BAM by Pal

Hey guys, just keeping you posted on what's happening - the main colas I left quite large have taken the longest to dry as you would expect so I'm just taking it down to the 60-65% range, right now it's at 65-72%. But thats just the main colas, the rest of the buds have been curing for a couple days and I've probably smoked about 7g so far as test buds for close friends and myself, with a short cure the taste is still present and sweet but still getting slight chlorophyll tastes every now and then, can't wait til she's been in the jars for a while I'm sure this is gonna be one of those strains where the taste and aroma develop with time - just gotta try not to smoke it all before it gets the chance

I have 2 more seeds of bam so I'm looking at it like this now:
1st plant (the one in this journal) - harvested with mainly clear thrichs
Then on my second my plant I will harvest with mainly cloudy trichs;
Third plant will be harvested with mainly amber thrichs.

I hope by doing this I will really understand the strain and it can become a staple in my grow calendar, I will know the perfect time for harvesting this strain in the future once I've sampled three different crops :xlaugh:

Dry Weight

Okay guys just did the final weigh in, I can't be 100% because I'm having to guess the amount I smoked but what I've got left is 210g
I probably smoked between 7-10gs maybe a little more and I am more than happy with this result, I was hoping to break 100g and I've doubled my expectations with a new personal best. Thanks to everyone that tagged along for the ride, it's been a fun one. I'll be back with a new journal in the next few months either with another DP or possibly S_a_H seed

Thanks for the praise man! I only used one unit through the seedling and veg stage, once she hit flowering I added the second unit, I read somewhere you should never use your full power until she hits in flower so when that time comes around I try to double the amount of light she received in the veg stage - it's the first time I've been able to do this and it definitely does help to produce bigger buds

I received a pm today with some questions about DWC and I thought it might come in handy for anybody else thinking about getting stuck in with hydro, fairly simple stuff but I thought I'd post a copy to this thread just in case

did you find any use for the water level indicator
I didn't use it at first because the water level remains pretty stable until the plant begins to drink more and more. A little tip I have is to fill your bucket with water just below your netpot, then get a marker pen and draw a line on the water level tube - this will be helpful when you do top ups because you will know when there is the full 15L in there. This became handy later on in flowering because the root mass causes the water level to rise because of it's size, so I had my initial 15l marker and then drew another line with the roots in the bucket also to see the new "full" level reading - if this doesn't make sense let me know and I'll try explaining better

were the rez changes easy?
Taking the plant out of the bucket is no problem whatsoever IF you have enough height in your grow space, towards the end of my grow res changes were getting tricky but that's due to my limited size tent, I've upgraded it for my new grow so shouldn't have any problems.

i can't see from pics but is there a hole on top for topping off the rez or a valve at the bottom for draining?
There is a hole at the top but I lost the small plastic cover so I taped some cardboard down to keep things light tight (very important in DWC) when I wanted to top up I would simply slide the bucket lid over with the plant still in the bucket then just add whatever needs to go in. I don't like the idea of draining valves because it encourages people to not clean out their buckets resulting in slimes and nasty bacteria, whenever I do a res change I rinse the bucket with lots of fresh water from the shower head and clean the inside with a sponge.

what's the big hose for?
The big hose is actually the tubing that connecst the air pump to the air stone/diffuser. Because my pump performs at 30LPM the tubing is I think 8mm rather than the standard 6mm (sizes could be wrong I'm pretty chonged) Make sure when buying a pump it can move the same amount of air as there is water in your res i.e 20L res = 20LPM pump minimum. This will ensure optimum oxygen content in the water.

do you know if there is a smaller size pot?
I got these buckets from a friend so I'm not sure where he bought them, as far as I know most suppliers will offer a different selection of net pots ranging from tiny 1" pots to 10" I believe mine is 6" and I wouldn't go any smaller in fear of the roots breaking through the plastic, of course if you have a smaller res you can use a much smaller net pot.
