Original question:
Hello guys. I wonder if I can get some decent buds with a 250w hps light. I dont want to use 400w or 600w because I dont want to deal with the heat. Thanks
Short answer: Yes, you can get decent buds with 250W HPS. Do a quick search around here for "250W HPS grow" and you'll see your results.
Long answer: HPS of any kind produces heat so without knowing the rest of your setup variables, it's hard to tell you much beyond this.
I run two 400W HPS in cool tubes in a 4 ft x 4 ft x 7 ft tent and a 1000W HPS in an area about 5 x 3 ft. It gets hot brother. Summer time you have no choice but to run an A/C. Extraction fans are a necessity. Not hard to spike temps into 90-100+ degrees F if you aren't monitoring or if an extraction fan quits working.
If you decide to go with HPS but aren't quite sure if you are going to scale up; you can always get a dimmable ballast, which usually run at 100%, 75%, and 50% power depending on your needs. You could easily run 300W or 200W of HPS if heat became an issue and it still allows you to scale up a bit.
Would also get a vented hood or cool tube for sure; typically the vented hoods will give you better coverage with the light but the cool tubes allow much better airflow at the expense of less coverage (usually they come with these crappy little reflector wings.)
So hopefully that at least answers your original question; although to decide if that's the right light for you we would need to know the rest of the details of the setup (which sound like they will come in the future.)
Let us know if you need any additional help brother!
