Hey folks - just a quick question that I didn't see answered elsewhere. I'm getting closer and closer to my first grow, and I have my "need to buy" list all put together but now I'm wondering if I can simplify things a bit/save myself some money.

Basically, I'm wondering if I really can go with 2700 lighting all the way through and still get decent results. I know that I might get less vigorous vegetative growth, but as I'll be growing in a rather small space (4.5sq. ft. stealth cab grow w/200w CFL) I feel like that's not necessarily a bad thing.

I also know that some folks go with a mix of 6500 & 2700 as a "happy medium", but I'm specifically wondering about keeping it to 2700 for the entire duration.

Thanks!

yes, that is exactly what I would do with autos. 2700k 24/0 all the way through.
but if practical, full spectrum is always best. But would not switch from one to the other.

@autogogo: Good deal. Have you noticed any downsides compared to similar grows that utilize 6500 & 2700?

yes, spindly, wider nodes, but I think better quality if using minimum light. First get enough 2700k to take it all the way through, and then if practical add 6500k, but never sacrifice 2700k to add more 6500k. My guess is you will be low on light. 200w is good for just one plant. but for one plant it is fine and sometimes very good.

The more red you add in veg, the more exaggerated stretch you will have. If you don't have height concerns it will work. But honestly a balanced spectrum would be better.

Fair point. But stretch can also be countered by making sure to keep the lights low and lots of LST, correct?

To a degree, however with alot of space between the nodes it creates kinda an ugly plant with thin stretched out buds that don't tend to "connect". But to each his own I guess. I can't imagine it would affect yield or quality much for the negative anyways.

Gotcha. Honestly, as long as the yield and quality are good, I don't care if the buds are ugly. Thanks for the knowledge! :)

veg? What veg? You mean that stuff that still keeps growing after the plant is flowering like crazy? Yes, If practical, run 6500k for the first two weeks.

Personally, ever since my first grow I've always used 6500k for veg, then switch to 2700k for flower and haven't had any issues. I of course use LED's as well.. So if you're using strictly CFL i assume it could be different, but overall I haven't had any issues and have had good results..
