Hi there,

I've a mini grow box with 2 x 22 watts fluorescent tube lights. The seed hasn't sprout yet (4 days since germination, but only today i've moved from the papertowel to a pot).

Is this light system enough for the first leaves appears or should i increase the light system with a few cfl?
I'm just seedling indoor until the plants get strong enough to be outdoor (i'll put them 4 days outdoor gradually before leave them there). I'm thinking maybe more 1-2 weeks and when it has 4 leaves at least i transplant them. What do you think?

Cheers mates!

That's just fine for seedlings. Keep them about six inches from the seedling and it should flourish.

Welcome dwarven. Good luck with your grow.

Mr Piggy, sorry but my english is terribly and right now i'm a little wasted lol. When you say that it should flourish, you're saying that it's enough for them to grow till vegetative?

This is gonna be my first grow ever from seed to harvest (i've tried before to grow a few plants indoor but with some friends). Right now i'm seedling 5 seeds, and in two weeks i'm gonna seed another 10. When i transplant then i'll post a few pics ;)

If your talking about a four foot shop light there fine for a short grow. I started my transplants in four inch pots for about three weeks under that light and it worked fine, but there no good for an entire grow.

I start ALL of my garden seeds under a shop light and it works fine for everything. It looks like the OP is referring to using it only for starts.

Yeah mate, i'm just waiting until they get good enough to get outdoor ;)

Hi guys,

I bought today a CFL 22W with 1440 Lm and i held it horizontally between the two tubes because my growbox is lower (40 cm).
Using the CFL horizontally wasted light or it's ok this way? I am willing to build other growbox if it really pays off (this growbox is just to get the plants strong enough to go outside, not to plant them indoor all the cycle!).

Btw, this CFL is cool white but i had to put a fan to keep two plants more close to it (they've just 5 cm tall, 3 days after sprouting).
