Hi, I'm wondering if any tech savvy or even just knowledgeable afn members out there would help me. I'm looking to build a COB led grow light to replace a 600watt HPS.

As far as I'm aware, CREE is the most efficient so let's just use that as a staple. Would anyone have any designs with part list they would be able to share?

I have seen some people use 5 cobs for a 4x4, but with that being said. There would end up being 4 of the COB lights above 25 plants. True Tdam style if you know what I mean.

Thanks guys!

Also, I have seen the 4 COB light kit from cobshop.net What would you guys thinks about getting 5 of those and being 4 lights with 5 of those cobshop.net cobs?

600W HPS is around 210-230 PAR W. 50% efficient COB means you need 210*2 or 230*2 watts so 420-460W COBs. CREE are pricey and old tech. Go see Vero 29 gen 7 or Citizen 1818 or 1825. Drive them at 50-70 W so you get around 50% efficiency. Easy math, here you go.

Thanks mate! Do you know of any drivers tough enough to run 5 at 90w or 6 at 70w?

I use 90cri for most of my lights, 3000 to 4000k. A single hlg-480 would be great for that space, or 2 240s... Get dimmable drivers cuz 400+w full power on seedlings will make them unhappy.
