Hi AFN. I have a couple ?'s. 1st is , I am using 800w of HPS in only 15 sq. ft. . Is this optimal space, or should I make the space bigger? 2nd ? is, what is the best lighting for AF'S? I see a lot of people on here are using cfl t5. I thought HPS was the elite light for growing?
Please give me some insight on these questions. THANK YOU !!!

That light should be fine for that size. If your not having heat problems the hps is probably the better light.Cfl and t-5's are also good if you have heat issues and theses will do a good job also.

What's the height of the space? 800w should be OK as long as the extraction is OK.

I'd keep the hps over a cfl.
Could use it as a supplement light on the floor or sides.

S'up Dude!

I've got 2x 400w HPS working in my 4x4 (16 sq ft) and they're doing great. I'm using standard open reflectors, so dealing with the heat is a bit more of a pain. You'll need some serious ventilation if you use open fixtures. Keep a height of 18" or better to prevent heat stressing the tops (open fixture). Cool tubes will allow you to get a bit closer because most of the heat is ducted away.

Here is my current arrangement. 2x 400w HPS and 1/2 of a 240w LED (half blown).

HID are still king in my book. LEDs are very good, and more conducive to most smaller rooms.

Can you handle the extra 15 degrees the HID lights add? Does the additional noise from the necessary larger fans jeopardize your stealth?

If you can rock HID s, they are still the way to go.

I'm covering 16 sq.ft with a 600 watt MH and its working fine. 800 watts is more than enough. Remember, the higher the wattage the more heat it pumps out.

The general rule of thumb with HPS lighting is 50 watts per square foot in veg and 60 in flower. You're at 53 so you should be fine as long as the heat isn't an issue.
