A Garden Of Goodies

My Copacabanas are still just creeping along. They haven't had much smell until recently and they are getting a bit stickier. Like you, I've had them out of the rain for a few days now. I'm picking the caterpillars off of them one by one. I've got plenty of branches so I'm okay cutting the top of a branch off as needed but I'm amazed at how much damage those little fuckers can do.

I grew a couple of Stitch's Onyx last year and I had a sativa pheno that grew similarly to these Copacabanas. The Onyx just kept creeping along slowly and then at the last minute in October finally finished up. It went for 160 days total. I'm guessing these Copacabanas will go at least to the end of this month but I'll just have to wait and see.

Wow, look at those go. Are you getting the lime - lemon cleaner smell? That's what mine smelled like.

For caterpillars, you can spray with bTi, the bacteria messes up the pillars feeding. I've been getting bits of mold on all my outdoor plants where there is heavy caterpillar damage, but it doesn't spread beyond those areas. I can accept a 10% loss as the cost of outdoor growing but it's still annoying though. Hope it's manageable for you.

It's interesting with autos, since they can't be cloned so each particular batch of seeds might be different, depending on the overall stability of the line and such, the parents of that particular batch, etc.....I know a grower here, iampepe, has been running Purple Mazar from Flash and got some big tall, long season type plants. My Muay Thai plant was definitely different as well, being more indica type character and finishing under 90 days, I'm kind of wondering what the other two beans from that 3 pack will look like....

Oh, and I owe you some more rep, man, I give rep for nice plants, not for being a social butterfly here. Your plants are really nice, do drop in with more pics any time ..... :d5:

Until recently the smell has been mostly what you described as "sweet grass." It's now taken on a definite citrus but more of a lime zest smell to me. You know I've used the bti in my water and on the soil surface for fungus gnats but have yet to spray it on.

I keep looking at your Copacabana from last year and comparing mine to it. I don't think either of mine are going to have buds as thick as yours were. Mine both seem to have smaller, finer leaves also. I haven't fed them much of anything for a while now but just gave them a bit of light compost tea this past weekend.

I was just telling my wife I can't wait to start growing again next year. She asked what we are growing next year and I said, "Thai!" She said, "Thai stick?" And I said yessssss...

I haven't figured out that reputation thing but I believe I owe you a bunch of it. You're really the only guy I've struck up conversations with here! Thanks for that!

@squatty Hey man, thanks for being cool, I do enjoy growing the plants and it's fun to see others do the same. It's my luck when people make conversation and I enjoy it, so thanks to you for that. Cool to see another grow of the same strain, something about the allure of the superautos in there as well...I'm still wanting to try a few more of them, maybe that chocolate chunk x blueberry one or the critical haze.

I'm stoked to see how well your buds are doing, are all the pistils still white or are they starting to turn? It looks like they're going to get bigger. Lol. I forget how old these are, they definitely have finer leaves, cool to hear the lime smell is there. You think about quick testing some in the near future? I'd bet the effects will be a little different from the pheno I had, probably for the better too.

The end of the outdoor season for the autos is here.

I cut everything off the g14 this morning except the seeded branches and a couple popcorns. The main branches have good density, pleased with the yield and quality.

I'll get after the Night queen probably tomorrow, those lowers are nice and frosty now. The seeds on both plants are probably good to go but no harm in leaving them longer so long as they don't open and fall out. What I've seen so far they are good size and proper tiger stripes.

Here's a few more pics, including the broccolini patch I planted over the 4th of July. I'll try and put up some seed and dried bud photos down the road but I'm basically near the finish here. I've restarted my Portal strain run for indoors under the leds, they're starting day 10 today and doing great, going to plug them in to the octopots today or tomorrow. Should be more exciting to see in a few weeks, stop by my thread there if you're interested.

Thanks again for following the grow with me, it's been a lot of fun this summer and learned a bunch more things too. I appreciate all the cool feedback, laughs and vibes here, thanks
:cheersmate:

Hey bud very nice,oh and the garden is lovely also.I think my next run i will try to make some seeds for a couple of my fav strains.I have never made seeds before, may need some pointers. It will be several more weeks, till i get these ( vb x gc x mox ) done.Feel free to chime in with some pointers.Man you are going to put up a lot of buds.Really sweet tho.Peace

Hey robbio, making seeds is fun, you can just selectively pollinate a few areas and still get plenty of seeds to play with. They take about 4 to 6 weeks to mature in most cases, so it's good to hit them with that dust when they're around day 30 to 35 in general but I heard you can even just pollinate the preflower calyxes since those kind of just mature and fade early on the stalks anyway, you know, the little single calyxes...

But yeah, you probably want to keep the male separate somewhere during the week it begins to bloom. That's probably the most inconvenient thing, but you can also start the reg seeds like 3-4 weeks before you drop the strains you want to seed, that way you can be harvesting the pollen in your cab before the fems are budding. Or put the male outside if you can.

It only takes a bit of time for the pollen to knock, you can then spray the bud you just seeded and the surrounding area with water to deactivate any pollen you placed, so it doesn't spread seeds over all your buds. I'd wait an hour and call it done, then spray, the pollen gets in there quick, like maybe 10 minutes but like 30 minutes or an hour is safe. You can use like a Q tip to daub the pollen on your selected buds if you don't want to use your fingers, or a paintbrush.

Its hard for me to isolate the males ,due to my setup.I can prolly put him in the shower in my room and shut the door.My room is open otherwise.I prolly can get a separate little tent for the males when i get the money. But yea i can make it work.I have been reading up on breeding, very cool stuff.I have a lot of really nice genetics to work with. Thanks for the wonderful advice. Can i pm you if i have any more questions.Peace
