New Grower A journal for my friends

You've got some lucky friends; hope they appreciate it :pighug:

...Someday, I really want to see you just drop some seeds in decent organic soil in SIPs like GroBuckets...then just fill the water reservoir! Would cut your 5m/day fertigation by ~80% :joy:
I didn’t want to be left to my own decisions
:greencheck:
eliminates dealing with over/under watering
✔️
eliminates wondering if I should feed
☑️
I prefer easy
🏁
I’m a very very low maintenance guy

FWIW, I think your ability in ongoing environment and related details...Temp, RH, Watering, PPFD/DLI, Airflow, Pruning, Training, Drying, Curing, etc. accounts for more of your success than you think :baked:

Thank you for the kind words 😃 I’ll add a soil bucket in a grow soon and see how it goes. I’m very interactive with my plants, when I’m here the tent door is always open and I dig pulling them out for a defol check or some training or just leaf tugging in general. So feeding them each day is actually a perfect way for me to scratch the interactive itch by sitting around the dinner table talking about our day so to speak 😆

Day 17

Hey now! Look at us growing trees! Today when I start fertigating I’ll do one quick pass closer to the stem first, not enough to cause runoff on its own and then proceed as usual. I use garden sprayers with the tip removed. This allows me to easily avoid splashing leaves. Oh and man I forgot to tell you guys that you can get all this stuff at GreenCoast Hydro in Long Beach. Not sure about other items cost difference on Amazon but I know that the coco is 40$ a bag on Amazon and like 15$ at the store. I buy 4-6 bags and a gallon of each nute at a time to save trips. Ummmm I guess that’s it for today. ✌🏻

Naw that’s too tough a task they’re all really solid. I’m not even sure what all was there but the Sour Crack was real stony and finished on the quicker side. On their website you can search the details of all of them so my next step was to look at the freebie parents for taller and higher yield. Tons of freebies to choose from, of which I’ve never tried their parents.

Day 19

Looking good! I upped my power to 80% for the big girl so I lowered my babies 16 inches down to about 48” away from the light. Ppfd is approx 565 which is only about 80 higher than before.

Almost time for me to top them so if you haven’t yet its time to decide how you want to continue the grow. Do you want to top them? Do you want to train them? Next post I’ll pull up some example pics of just a few of the different things I’ve done. Keep on keeping on my growmies! ✌🏻

It just occurred to me that I never talked about my light schedule. I run 16 on 8 off. I think the most popular sched out there is 18/6 and many folks do 20/4 along with other variations. Some even do 24/0. Like anything else, different strokes for different folks! I’m of the opinion that the plant gains from rest. My first 2 grows were 18/6. The next grow was 16/8 and the only discernible difference was on my electric bill! Paid for 60 less hours a month and got the exact same buds. A 14/10 run is in the near future. So do some research and pick a starting point then you can experiment as time goes on.

Ok let’s talk topping and training. I’m a big fan of both. Topping prevents height problems for me and along with training enables me to keep a nice level multiple plant canopy. For some reason there’s people who say you should never top an autoflower because well because who the hell knows why! Its a weed do whatever the hell you want with it! Ok that being said, I usually top after the 5th node. Then I train the branches by pulling them horizontal which gives the lower growth more light and air and encourages them to get vertical. Kinda like my current plant here…

When I top them I usually do after the 5th node and I always remove the first node. Just a personal preference as I like a little more space between dirt and branches. Am I throwing away future buds? Yes. Do I give a dang? Not at all. So I will top after the 5th node has bloomed out and I will wait until I have at least 1/2 inch of stalk grown out because I believe it encourages a fatter knuckle strong enough to train and hold the weight later. Like so…(she was topped after 3rd node)

I like to experiment and I love to shape the plants. A couple examples…

Topped after 3rd node and removed 1st node

Didn’t top this one but I removed the 1st 4th and 5th nodes as an experiment to get more light to the bottom..

Man it just occurred to me I should’ve just sent you to my experiment grow to begin with as that’s where these pics came from 🤦🏻‍♂️🤣 I’d just be repeating myself so go check it out https://www.autoflower.org/threads/...h-node-amounts-and-topping-not-topping.89976/

I run 20/4 in a "veg shed" because of the cold.

But I'm in complete agreement with you about the plant needing rest, and my flowering tent is on a 16/8 schedule. I have tried 14 hour days and learned that some strains flower on that schedule, so keep your eyes peeled.
