New Grower Aburan's Newbie Questions

Current Setup:

-HomeBox L: 1x1x2m
-Kit 400 HPS Agrolite Gro&Flo + Wings Reflector
-Extractor Prima Klima 2 Speed - 220/360 m3/h
-Passive intake from Homebox Flaps
- Hortinline 5W Clip Fan for air circulation
-PH meter (non digital)
-Temperature / Humidity Meter
-Ph Down
-11 liter Pots

Fertilizers:

-Biobloom
-Topmax
-Canna Rhizothonic

Soil:

Biobizz All Mix


Currently germinating 7 AutoBlueberrys (DP) under paper towell with destilled water.


So my questions are:

1-How should I water the germination in the 11 liter? Should I drop water until it runs off from the bottom or just add a bit of water in the first days?

2- Regarding the RHIZOTONIC. I can start it from day 1 since its a root stimulator right?

3 - My Homebox L passive flaps give a little light leak. Should I be concerned about it?

4 - What distance should I keep my 400 HPS on the first days? Is 70cm fine?

5 - My tap water PH is about 8. Should I just leave it 24 hours in a open container and PH down it, or use something like destilled water ?

Hey aburans, welcome to the site.:group:I removed your other post in the General Chat section, like you wanted. I was gonna just move it here, but since you already started another with the info, I just deleted it.:thumbs: In reference to some of your questions, little seedlings wont need alot of water, so just give like a cap full of water, when its dry. I like to spray the leaves also, but thats just me:dance:when it comes to light leaks, if you are able to tape them up or something to correct it, I would suggest it. depending on how much light is leaking, you might not have to worry much about it autos arent sensitive to light leaks. Leaving your tap water out for 24 hours is good to get the chlorine out. I would Ph down it then as well, 8 is just to high. Not sure with your soil, but 6.5 is the sweet spot, give or take a few points lower. I cant help you with the 400 hps, I run only a 150 so, dont wanna steer you in the wrong direction with that. Pretty sure someone else will come thru with more knowledge than me, to give a hand. Hope this helps a bit. Keep it growing

Im going to try to answer your questions....

So my questions are:

Ok i tell you how i do it... Drop your seeds into a small cup of tepid water for 24 - 36 hrs... Then put them in some damp tissue paper on a plate cover the a bowl, put that into to a plastic bag and place it some where warm... You should have tails coming from the seed in a couple of days... Then you put them in to your soil tails down only half inch maybe an inch....

Yes you can, but i would go with a light dose to start....

Growing Auto's you dont have to worry that much about light leaks....

Yup that should be fine... They dont need lots of light at the start...

I leave my water to stand for 24hr, but thats because its smells of clorine... Tap water is fine.. Just pH it down.....

Hey guys! Thanks everyone for their answers!

My major concern is really the watering after I've finished germinating. Some say drop water until it runs-off the pot and then insert the germinated seed (rinse and repeat after the first 2 inches of the soil are dry) and others say just to give a small cup of water every now and then.

Personally i dont like the pot to wet when im starting seedlings... can stay wet for a long time and imo thats not good for them... so im in the cup of water bracket....

I have had way better success this grow using enuff water to keep the seedling damp ...as the medium was drying I kept the seedling mosit with water as it would most likely do in Nature. ...dew in the morning and night after bed time ....
I also fed a rooting stimulant but through foliar feedinin ....
Then I'd wet the pot only when they felt compltetly done dry and according to actual weight of them ..
I'd say use the rizo in ur foliar sprays at 1/8 dose ...better and faster absobstion sending those roots digging for the bottom ...

On the HPS I use the back of my hand to cover the seedlings and if ya hand is hot/to warm ....u want it to feel somewhat warm and they should be ok ..

Ok in soil its not so important... Just not too cold, i let mine stand for 24hrs so its somewhere around room temp i should imagine...

Hydro is a different thing... Its very important not to let it get to high.. Root rot sets in and too cold they wont grow.... 20c - 24c is a good range to aim for....
