Live Stoner Chat Amsterdam CoffeeShop Thread

And, do people toke in public in the 'Dam? Or, what do the police do to people toking in public?

The people who do are usually clueless tourists. The correct etiquette following the Dutch attitude of each to their own so far we all respect each other, dictates that you smoke in your home/hotel room (many hotels tolerate it) or in a designated weed shop/coffee shop. Not everyone in Amsterdam is a stoner and one can't close ones nose can one?
Police will generally ignore you if you are tourists unless someone complains or you are also causing a nuisance.

I don't care to spend much time in the coffee shops. I prefer to drop in, make my purchase and then wonder the city in amazement. Especially the Rijksmuseum where I can spend hours on end stoned looking at amazing works of art. I appreciate the semi-legality of the city but there is so much more to do in Amsterdam than spend the entire time sitting in a cafe.

Yeah, you`ve got the `brasses`, the pubs and Burger King! ...Yeah, yeah, I know...I`ll get m`coat...:Aw shucks::smoke:

I found myself watching hours of 'Dam walking tours this week, and I didn't see a single toker.. I admit to scoping out unseemly ally ways, though.... lol

The Internet Cafe Tops. Not fancy like many. Good atmosphere and people.

I spent a total of 8 weeks in 2 trips in the city and a lot of it is a blur of parties, crazy bicycle rides, and loads of culture in museums and historic places. As well as the tourist shops and cafes. I always gravitated back to Tops.

One memorable moment was at 'The Wag' an old castle with an upscale internet cafe that does not allow smoking or other drug use. The manager was very loud as he ousted a young tourist by the scruff of the neck for smoking a dube.

My fave coffeeshop in 'Dam is Rick's Cafe/Coffeeshop. There are 2 different premises next door to each other, one is an actual 'coffeeshop' with a dealer and soft drinks/teas etc etc, and next door is 'Ricks Cafe' which sells alcohol. In Amsterdam, an establishment is not allowed to sell both alcohol and cannabis, so this is why they are separate at Rick's.

It's great there, the barmaids are very happy and resilient, all very good at making you feel welcome and can have a laugh with the lads. They also have happy hour where drinks are considerably cheaper, anyone who goes drinking in Amsterdam knows how expensive it can get!

The weed menu is not the most diverse but usually has some staples on there such as orange skunk, thai, blueberry, bubblegum, white widow, amnesia haze etc etc. Also a few hashes I think. Always fun and friendly with no pretentiousness.

Peace

I've been to 2 on my short visit. First the Dolphins. Toked a joint (White Dolphin) and then outside to 3-4 o'clock rush hour. After walking past the same old cathedral 3rd time I managed to change direction and found my way back to hostel. Luckily it was daylight. But I walked out on my own feet, not like that (US?) guy who just lay on the floor with big happy smile and "bar tender" had to give him sugar and a bit of fresh air. Then Dutch Flowers which was more a joint of locals. On my way to red lights I passed one of the Bulldogs and a 10 man biker gang hanging around, didn't stop there

Bandit, we need to plan a holiday. The AFN World Tour- Amsterdam! We can split the book rights ;)

Does anyone know if Mellow Yellow is still open? I'm a sucker for vintage, and they were the first..

I'm off to Amsterdam next month, i'll let you know if Mellow yellow is still open or not! As for smoking in the street I wouldn't recommend it unless in the RLD it's not the done thing really. I dont smoke in public at all when over there, only in coffeeshops or places that tolerate it. Remember it's still illegal in Holland.

Peace

Luckily it was daylight.

I was pretty comfortable walking most places at any time, day or night. I had asked the first day if there were places to avoid and the only warning was to avoid "The Bilge". The Bilgemiere (SP?) apartment complex. Huge modern looking tenements with definite possibility of danger to strangers who wander in. No different than the "projects" in our citys. The only ones who approached me on the streets at night were a couple crack users who asked if I had some ashes. I had heard the train station was sketchy at night but never went there after dark. Had no reason to.

Yeah, no problems for me either day or night. With daylight I meant that I was able to see myself through the city, mark down the canals and familiar buildings, and finally the right hostel.
