Lighting Any decent silent LEDs out there?

some people are using white leds to grow and are enjoy a good deal of success with them. have you considered using led light bulbs like these.http://www.ebay.com/itm/E27-E14-B22...20?pt=US_Light_Bulbs&var=&hash=item3a93099db8 in a fixture like the CFL growers use. perhaps a mix of cool white and warm white. no fan noise because of no fan and these bulbs are designed to replace incandescent bulbs for room lighting so should be pretty durable.they would provide both blue light (455-470 nm range) as well as full spectrum light from 540-700 nm. many DIYers are moving away from monochromatic led and starting to use high efficiency white leds

How many of those 30w leds would you needto grow an auto?

At least two per plant but you would also need cone reflectors and sockets for each of those.

Vipar V300 is cheap and quiet. Its definitely quieter than the extractor fan in that tent. They can be had for £96 off ebay in the UK.

Hey I heard they work great, I have a tent, I suppose I did a good job on my ducting since the extraction fan is not very loud, it's a mild air-movement type of noise, kind of like a high quality blowdryer. The LEDs I have seen, though (bear in mind the build quality was not so good), seem to have this rattle-type noise that I absolutely want to avoid as it drives me mad lol!

GN sounds like a great choice to be honest. Do you guys think ms0006 would be an overkill? How high/low do I need to keep the light (from your experience), as my vertical height is only 1.4m (4.5') and some of it is already taken up by the air extraction kit. Is hanging the ms0006 unit in there a viable solution or will I have problems with bleaching? (I plan to LST)
Sorry for all the random questions but you folks are so helpful I just can't stop myself ;)
Get a scrog net and top and LST to fill the net out and you´ll be fine. Go for a Topled Mars 2 400W. Just fired up my 1200W and the noise was fine, no rattling. If I´m gonna sleep in the room I´ll probably switch out the fans though! :)

Londonpeach, GN006 has been discontinued half a year ago. Sold out.

GN006 is not silent light, it is not meant for places, where there is need for total silence. It is not very loud but something in between. For 2x2 one GN006 would be like sent from Heaven.

Product that Grow Northern has been developing for some time and will most probably be announced next days (we have been waiting half a year) will be totally silent using advanced cooling technologies which has not been described yet. will draw very little electricity, 70-90W, run silent and use one of the best LEDs proven in recent grows. Will cost 330 in UK. We expect it to be a really good product but any cooling approach without fans is expencive, especially if you want it to be very efficient. LEDs are hot and need cooling, otherwise they melt, deteriorate, burn, I have seen that already in my garden.

Hello

As I mentioned, there is someone near me selling a gn0006 that's why I'm inquiring.
Also, after reading this thread, I have given up on achieving total silence, but instead was looking for a reasonably quiet light, and thought if I could get some opinions about gn0006 before I buy it.
330 GBP is over my budget I'm afraid hence I thought getting the 'older' model would be good.

Then everything is OK, you will enjoy GN and it is reasonably quiet.

Just wanted to say a huge thank you for all your replies, I went and researched GN a bit more before buying the light, and made good use of the 'GN manual' thread here - its amazing how much info one can get if you just sit and read patiently.
I decided to go with the recommendation of GN0006 and I am glad I did. Although the light IS more noisy than I thought it would be, when popped in the zipped up tent it's not bad at all and I have swapped the light/dark periods so that the dark 6 hours fall during the day - one has to be inventive after all ;)

On topic of silent LEDs, like the rest of you I am very very excited about the new model! I am keeping my fingers crossed that after a couple of months I will be able to get one second-hand at a better price, it just sounds like the Holy Grail product to be honest, hopefully GN will deliver (and before Christmas too) :)
