I dont have a growspace infestation, so i dont know which category this thread belongs in. Please move it if necessary. My plants are perfectly happy and unaffected.......but i have RED SPIDERMITES outside my house big time. You know those little red things you loved to squish as a kid? They are everywhere and on everything outside the house. Does anyone know of a cost effective way to rid my yard or at least build up a perimeter around my house of these things? I take severe precaution around my plants so they wont get inside the house, but i really want to rid this pest problem before it becomes a real problem. Dont know if something so simple as a chemical spray around the outside of the foundation of the house will work or not. Any info is appreciated!

I think what you have is box elder bugs. They can be killed with a insect spray but when they are all over your house it's quite a job.I get them also but just leave them and they usually go away in a week or so.

I agree, probably not spider mites. They are very small, about the size of poppy seed. Most of the time you won't even see them until they infest a plant and even then it take a magnifying glass to get a good look. It's usually the browning of the buds and webs that give them away. If you don't mind using chemicals, something like Triazicide spread in a 6' or so wide band around your house will kill everything.

Can you post a picture? Box elder bugs are much bigger than what Daddy Muddy is talking about, there about 3/4 inch long and kind of redish black.

all i have is my phone camera and it wont come out clear. They are smaller than the head of a pin, blood red, and they dont weave webs from my experience. About the size of a grain of salt. Closest picture i can find from google is this red spider mite.jpg but even then it seems that that little bastard in the pic is bigger than what i have here. And litterally they are everywhere outside. I strip to boxers and run my clothes in the dryer before coming close to my grow space.

I've found Hypoapsis predatory mites are a good solution for an infestation. They won't get rid of all of them but will take them down to insignificant levels with the added advantage that you're not using any unpleasant chemicals. You can buy them online anda small population will continue to live on the plants, controlling any pests as they reproduce.

Treating for mites outside will actually make them come back worse. Read a few ag college treatment plans. The only good choices are natural predators and take off the boxers and shower and clothes fresh from drier before going into your grow arra.
