Just curious if strain characteristics like sativa uppity and indica sleepy are just as prevalent and noticeable when done as an extraction (e.g. tincture) or infusion like coco oil or butter.

.
Absolutely YES.
I use herb mainly for sleep, and I can tell the differences among different indica strains, and the difference between indica and sativa edibles is large.
Here's an easy test to see which edible strains you like best:
(1) Decarb @ 240 F for 40 min using a verifying thermometer. Even tiny amounts of herb can be used, such as 0.25 gram.
(2) Grind to fine powder
(3) Mix into nutella or nut butter and eat. A longer but tastier method is to mix the ground decarbed herb into the oil of any cookie recipe, and bake.
Each 1 gram herb used will contribute about 150 mg THC to the finished product.

Oil Infusions, yes. just remember oral effects can be different. Tinctures, yes especially if it is a cold process.

I have had 99% THC Distilate, and it is the same no matter its origins. And it is the same every time, it lacks any character at all.

Cannabinoids and their ratios matter, and so do Terpine combos IMO.

Long way around to the short answer is the more of the entourage you can protect, the more likely you get the same effects.

What is THC distillate? Is that where it's made with a still in a lab with beakers, bulbs, tubes etc?

Yup, Different solvents and lots of glass. They take the cannabis and do fractional distillation. Every soluble element, in this case THC, vaporizes and condenses at very specific temperatures/vacuums. They can catch specific substances at different lengths of a condenser tube. Its pretty cool, and its waaay beyond my skill level.

It is almost the consistency of Vaseline- perhaps a little bit thicker, in a syringe. Super clear, very slightly amber. The one I got had so-so berry flavoring. If it comes around give it a try, so you know what pure THC feels like.

That being said, I like the characters from vaping bud, and for me the distillate had little personality. Strong but boring, useful for kicking joint up several notches.
