In past grows I have used only 3 gal fabric pots and almost all the grows were heavy with big buds. I'm not sure why but after reading a post about 5 gal pots I decided to give them a try. I'm in the 5th week and am growing 1 dos si does and 2 green crack autos. Both the Seedsman Green Crack autos were in a race to see which was the biggest, while the other is a dwarf in comparison.
It was really easy to know when to water 3 gal pot. Weight was the first indicator and watching for the first signs of droop. The 5's have that extra 2 gal of soil so it's harder for me to judge dryness. With the 5's the first 4 weeks of watering was not drain to waste. By the 6th week in 3's I watered when almost dry watering for 10% runoff.
So, someone tell me if given a healthy plant, of the root system will eventually occupy all of the pot
