Just looked it up then 1.6 million pound worth of bitcoin got stolen from silk road 2.0

Heard about this on the radio yesterday, what can happen legally? Because the site is used for illegal activities I would think that there's nothing the authorities could do

I doubt anything can happen legaly isn't bitcoin a virtual form of money u could never hold it in ur hand just the products u've bought. p.s im only guessing (could be talking absolute crap) keen to learn more tho

They've stated that they assume all losses, staff has given up their salary and they'll be paying every single BTC back... lets see...

I went to bank yesterday took 500 from my one checking and moved it to my other checking at the same bank via a check for cash.... got home and the money from the withdrawal was posted online...500 gone. But where did it go? so I call the bank and said I just was there moved 500 from one account to the other where is it...

answer... it will be there after midnight. So I say to the lady then where is my 500 right now I want it....... and says I dont know I'm new here. So I say let me speak to the manager... manager says she messed up and my money will be there after midnight, I ask her where is my money right now? a long pause.... and some answer about cash and checks and computers... so I say... let me get this right my money is in outer space till midnight? and she says basically yes. I said ...nice bank you got there losing my money for a whole day.

There are physical bitcoins with the idfk what it's called... "private key" imprinted on them. Casascius (https://www.casascius.com/) makes them. Apparently he stopped minting them because... governments.

I think it's awesome how cryptocurrencies bothered the powers that be so much that they stepped in and shut it down... I'm not about arms dealing and I'm sure that's one of the reasons they axed it, but that only adds to the allure. The fact that it wasn't something they could control or whatever and the other fact that the smarter people are on the outside of the system... just makes me smile.

For the record, vires in numeris means "strength in numbers"...

greenzilla... the cold truth is that fiat money, ergo, dollar euro etc.. are themselves virtual currencies. Governments mint "money" - it is just paper and metal that are representation of value. Value in itself does not exist like in the old days, where say 100 dollar would mean you had 100 dollars worth of gold in a safe somewhere, and a dollar bill would be proof of that. Long days are gone since gold as standard for value.

In essence, it is the belief that the USD/EUR has value that drives the markets. There is no inherent value to them. In fact, GOV can dictate, at will, how much money is actually worth through inflation manipulation.

For instance, China is inflating their money like crazy, on purpose, so they become super competitive in terms of mass production. Result is that it is cheaper to buy from China than to set up shop, say, a factory, in the USA. That is why the almost entire industrial strength of the US has vanished. But, they also creating a humungous bubble in the meantime with all this speculation.

Crypto currencies have absolutely ZERO centralized regulation, goes entirely by the blockchain's integrity (technical term, meaning ledger or total global accounting) - in essence, true financial tricks and crimes are not possible, nor its "value" be manipulated in the dark

Just like cannabis. They can try, but will never be able to regulate nature. IMHO Bitcoins, ergo, crypto currencies will boost the human civilization onto a new, more just society.

Fascinating times my friends...

regulate nature...
I don't want to get off topic, but I remember a thread a few months back about the CVPO. Long story short, they're trying to, and indeed may have already regulated plant species, very much like a vegetable patent office. Swear to god.
