Hi all i have quite a bit of experience with bud rot and hopefully this post can help the community identify, deal with and save your harvest. First off, bud rot or grey mold or botrytis are all names for this shitty condition we deal with on our lovely plants. It can greatly reduce/impact yield and easily kill the plants. Its a pathogenic spore that affects weak/damaged parts of plants and thrives on the food produced by that situation. Helped by humidity it can easily get out of control.

Here is a plant; a great white shark that was supposed to be harvested soonish but upon inspection i discovered mold. This pic is of her sister so that everyone has a frame of reference.

Her sister (victim) had relatively short lateral branches and a superbly dense rather large main cola. Considering my environment and summer season i suspected this might happen. My mistake was creating airflow but not removing the stems of the fan leaves from the branches and stalk. They degraded and yellowed and started bleeding sap which the mold uses as food. Here a couple of pics of clean vs moldy bud.

Follow your nose......as toucan sam says and you should be able to detect an underlying presence of mold but the first sign and both have happened everytime is.....the plants stop drinking. I noticed that they were heavy over several days as opposed to watering almost twice daily sometimes. Also another sign are leaves (mainly sugar ) twisting and curling without the obvious signs such as lockout, nute burn and such. Here is a pic or 2

Once discovered or caught early you can either treat the medium chemically or prune the affected areas but at that point its a matter of time and the plant should probably be harvested. Different mediums respond better to chemicals, mine being soil this time would not. Hydro based would work best imho. Here are pics of moldy bud.

So at this point im harvesting my plant to save my yield and protect the other. To control mold you can use sm 90 and run it through the medium or prune the affected areas. I used red wine vinegar mixed 3-1 with water to treat but harvested all the same. Here is a pic of the harvest. The bud on the bottom right is garbage. The big pile is suspected clean so i carefully trim all leaves down to the bud and hang as usual. The other pile top right has mold to some degree and will be trimmed the same with the occasional spray of the vinegar solution or removal of mold. Both are going to be left to dry out for along time before being cured. The partially moldy bud is in a box to prevent other contact. If any of the bud develops mold during drying i will spray treat until dry. After it is dry i give it a good bath in the same solution to a larger extent soaking the bud for 2 minutes then washing it for 2 minutes in clean warm water to rid the plant of the residue that forms. Then dry again and cure. This method has been made into a video online by weed guru Jorge Cervantes. Hope this helps anyone battling bud rot.

Thanks man i appreciate the comment. This shit is a large pain in my ass this time of year.
Yeah humidity can play a big role. I have only suffered from it once and caught it early so only lost approximately 10g.

Now I know why my Auto Mazar stops drinking... But this happened within few days after I removed fan. Good info!
I know for next time...
