Contrary to what some people here think, I can tell you from personal experience, that if you believe you can trust ANYONE in the legal system to do the right thing, play by the rules, etc, then I pity you if you ever have to deal with them. I learned the hard way, being honest with them, even when you know your innocent, will get you totally screwed!

There are 2 rules for dealing with the law, innocent or not:
1. SHUT UP
2. LAWYER UP

Why? ANYTHING ( including what you say ) can and will be used AGAINST you. Even things that should exonerate you.

Pop, that is so true, you can trust no-one in the legal system. Even your lawyer/barrister can screw you.
So, I would amend your two rules as follows...
1. SHUT UP (No Comment)
2. LAWYER UP
3. DON'T TRUST (2.)
4. GOTO (1.)

If all else, if you "no comment" till the cows come home, you will sleep a little easier knowing you gave nothing and no-one away.

True. But knowledge is power. I've experienced things from both sides. I know how both sides operate.

A good lawyer knows the law. A great lawyer knows the judge.

Find the best criminal defense attorney in your area and retain them. Stay loyal to yourself. Be smart. Know your local laws.
